One of the best country houses in the world, according to popular architectural publications, was recognized as the summer residence of Villa Ypsilon, designed by London-Brussels firm LASSA Architects, led by architects Theo Sarantoglou Lalis and Dora Swade. Greek Y (Ypsilon) roof covered with a thick layer of soil, scenic views from every residential area and inland courtyards, extraordinary interior design - all this exceeded not only the expectations of the customer and the architects themselves, but also conquered eminent jury.

They noted the uniqueness of this project, which lies not only in bizarre forms reminiscent of Greek the letter "Y" (Ypsilon), and in the ability of the authors to integrate the object into the natural landscape without violating its structure and harmony. The developers had a difficult task to design an eco-housing away from civilization, as organically as possible. interact with nature while investing in a very modest budget and not violating the principles of sustainable development.

Following the principles of organic architecture, the designers proposed the use of green roof technology, which allows significantly reduce energy consumption for indoor cooling and heating, allowing you to naturally maintain a comfortable microclimate. Since the design was guided by the outlines of the letter "Y", the design of Villa Ypsilon consists of three "sleeves" in the form of a slight arc, descending to ground level. Due to the fact that the thickened central part with diverging arcs was covered with a thick layer of natural soil, the building itself began to resemble a small hill. Looking from a distance or from above, it is difficult to see the traditional architectural forms, only the presence of a pool can reveal a secluded corner.

The subtleties of construction: Due to the remoteness from large settlements and the unwillingness to damage the environment, it was decided to manufacture the structural elements of the house in production. For this, it was necessary to purchase robotic equipment with software that allowed create custom shapes and perforated elements from concrete mix that cannot be done traditionally way. Ready-made blocks of the dwelling itself, tape parts of the type-setting floor, as well as all kinds of partitions, furniture elements, landscape and pool forms - all this was delivered to the construction site.

Such an organization for the implementation of an extraordinary project made it possible to significantly reduce the cost of purchasing finished products, because the developers sought to use only local building materials, also used the services of their craftsmen and companies specializing in the manufacture of window frames and furniture in order. As it became known to Novate.ru editors, it was possible not only to reduce the cost of the object, but also to speed up construction, which brought the deadlines for putting the summer residence into operation by as much as 7 months (without prejudice to quality).

If we talk about the layout of the house and the plot, then they were determined according to the structure of the building itself. The bifurcating "paths" of the roof made it possible to equip three courtyards, which form separate hemispheres. They are activated depending on the trajectory of the luminary, thereby providing residents with excellent outdoor recreation areas at any time. “The western courtyard is for breakfast, which can be stretched until noon, the eastern will delight you with coolness at lunchtime, and the southern one is an ideal place for water activities or relaxing late in the evening", – the architects explain their design solution.

Following the logic of the distribution of the territory, the sunniest side went to the pool, which coincided with an excellent view of the bay. Considering that the house, although it is a hill itself, is still located on a hill, it is easy to imagine what beauty opens up from the south side. An olive grove spreads from east to west, creating a peaceful environment both in recreation areas and in the building itself, which boasts generous glazing despite being partly under earth.

The internal spaces consist of two main parts. A more private area, facing east, is given over to the arrangement of three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The living area, providing excellent south facing views, consists of a living room, dining room and kitchen. From here, access to the "coastal" zone to the pool is provided, and you can also freely access two other courtyards. This connection provides natural air circulation, which eliminates the use of air conditioners. Morning sea breeze and night coolness emanating from the bay fill the interior space with fresh air, maintaining a comfortable microclimate.

Since the customers planned to use the country residence exclusively for recreation, they did not overload the residential and common areas with bulky furniture, pretentiousness or multi-colored. Concrete walls, ceilings and partitions (fortunately they used white concrete, and in some places with spectacular perforation), mosaic or marble floors, minimal the amount of furniture, the maximum predominance of white - all this made it possible to create an ideal home for a summer holiday surrounded by pristine nature.

This is not the only summer residence that has been successfully hidden in the Greek landscape. Take, for example,
