Good day, dear readers! Today I want to introduce you to an excellent perennial that can decorate any garden. The ornamental plant is called "Perovsky". In some sources you will find another name - "Russian sage". Fragrant spike-shaped inflorescences in appearance resemble lavender. I will talk about how to grow a culture in a garden plot in today's article.

General description of the plant

"Perovsky" refers to herbaceous perennials. The plant is quite unpretentious, so even a novice gardener can handle the cultivation. The main advantage of Russian sage is an attractive appearance not only during flowering, but also after it. During flowering, a delicate, airy, cloud-like shrub is literally strewn with small flowers in lilac-blue tones. Not only the flowers themselves are beautiful, but also the leaves. Leaf plates can be either simple or dissected. If you rub the leaf in your hands, you will feel a subtle pleasant aroma. The color of the shoots with a characteristic pearl-silver tint is also interesting.

I really love this perennial for long flowering. Delicate flowers bloom in mid-summer and delight with an attractive appearance until the onset of cold weather.

Another positive advantage of the plant can be considered its unpretentiousness to the composition of the soil. The perennial will bloom well even in conditions of poor soils.

Among the popular types of perovski for growing in the garden, the following are most often chosen:

  • Swan-leaved. Externally, the plant is represented by shrubs that can stretch up to one and a half meters in height. Thin, vertically directed shoots are densely leafy. On the tops of the shoots, inflorescences up to 30 centimeters long flaunt, which look very elegant, despite their impressive size.
  • Wormwood. It is this type that is similar in appearance to lavender. Quite compact bushes usually rarely stretch up to a meter in height. On spike-shaped inflorescences, many small bright blue flowers with a delicate purple tint bloom. Unusual openwork leaves add lightness to the appearance.

Features of planting and plant care

As I said, "Perovsky" is quite unpretentious. In order for the plant to please with a lush color, adhere to the following rules:

  • For planting, it is worth highlighting an open area of \u200b\u200bthe garden with good lighting.
  • So that the bushes do not interfere with each other and do not fight for nutrients, when planting, observe an interval of 50 centimeters between plants. If you plant bushes too close, they will not have enough air, which will negatively affect the state of the root system.
  • The shrub does not tolerate stagnant water, so it is worth organizing a good drainage layer at the bottom of the planting holes. I use ordinary gravel for these purposes.
  • Additional watering is necessary for plants only in case of prolonged drought.
  • The best soil is light, dry, with good moisture permeability. It is desirable that the acidity index be neutral. Unlike many ornamental plants, "Perovsky" does not need a nutrient substrate. On the contrary, if the soil is too nutritious, the shrub will stretch out and lose its attractiveness.

Another obligatory point of care is pruning. If you ignore this procedure, you should not expect abundant flowering. In addition, the health of the plant can be seriously affected.

The best time for pruning is spring. It is important to wait for the arrival of stable heat, when the kidneys begin to actively wake up. All shoots are subject to pruning. You only need to leave stumps no more than 10 centimeters high and powder them with ash. After pruning, you will notice many young and strong shoots.

The plant overwinters quite well. However, if severe frosts are expected, it is worth considering organizing a shelter. I use spruce branches for this purpose. Do not forget to remove the shelter in time with the arrival of spring heat.
