Today I will talk about the magnificent grass for the lawn - white clover. I like him for his appearance and qualities: softness, short stature, lack of bumps, pretty flowers are full of flowers all over the meadow. But its main advantage is the saturation of the soil with nitrogen. Let me tell you more about the trefoil.

About culture

Clover white creeping has a second common name - white porridge. It is a perennial undersized (rarely grows above 10 cm) herbaceous plant with strongly bushy shoots, small white flowers. Leaves of three plates everyone knows.

The name "creeping" characterizes this representative of the flora in the best possible way - it takes root thanks to creeping shoots and quickly forms a green carpet. It looks advantageous separately from other lawn grasses and in groups, resistant to trampling, so you can safely plant it on an active recreation area.

The plant has nodules on the roots. Nitrogen accumulates in these nodules, which has a particularly fruitful effect on grasses: it gives brightness to the leaf plate, strength for growth. Clover is a chic partner, giving extra food to neighbors. Therefore, its seeds are actively added to lawn mixtures - this allows you to have a beautiful green lawn even without the use of nitrogen fertilizers. But in my humble opinion, it looks better as a separate clearing.

The plant is unpretentious, it is calm about the composition of the soil, but does not like stagnant water. You can say about him: “Small, but daring” - the root system is so powerful (about 45 cm) that it is recommended to plant creeping clover on slopes and slopes, as it is able to protect them from shedding.

Sowing

Sowing is carried out from mid-April to June, when the average temperature per day is 10–15 degrees. Seeding rate - 20 g / sq.m. Most of the summer it pleases with flowers (from May to August). If you mow (which I highly recommend), flowers will appear again in two weeks.

Advantages:

  • withstands harsh winters;
  • does not require frequent feeding;
  • improves the soil;
  • quickly restores the integrity of the carpet in case of damage to individual areas.

Use in landscape design

The clover lawn looks harmoniously on the territory of the children's, sports grounds or in the garden. At the main entrance, I would not sow the porridge, it does not reach the ideally even English lawn. But it looks attractive among meadow grasses: meadow bluegrass, red fescue, common bent grass.

A clover lawn will remain attractive for 6–7 years, and with proper care, it will delight you for decades.

Do you like meadow lawn? In what proportions do you sow porridge, and in what plantings do you like grass more: in group or single? Tell us how you take care of a trefoil lawn? Do you aerate, mulch and how often do you cut? I look forward to your comments.
