Protection of fruit bushes from diseases and pests

I always start caring for fruit and berry bushes in early spring, before the buds swell on them. During this period I:

  • I cut out excess shoots at soil level. I pay special attention to shoots affected by diseases;
  • I collect fallen leaves and burn them;
  • I loosen the soil. Loosening the soil helps to destroy the caterpillars, especially when it comes to gooseberries. It will also reduce the number of infectious diseases.

During the period of swelling and blooming of the kidneys, I:

  • I mulch the soil with peat 6 cm high;
  • I process gooseberry bushes with Aktelik from pests.

During the formation of buds on currant and gooseberry bushes:

  • I spray them with Kinmiks, Novaktion or Tanrek preparations;
  • I process the bushes with a Bordeaux mixture.

Before flowering:

  • I spray the bushes with fungicides.

After the currant and gooseberry bushes have faded, they must:

  • re-treat with pesticides;
  • loosen the soil around the trunk circle to destroy the pupae of the currant bud moth;
  • spray with Topaz when powdery mildew appears;
  • treat leaves from spotting with Medekos, Bordeaux mixture, Fast;
  • when pests such as leafworm caterpillars, sawfly caterpillars appear, spray the plants with Lepidocide, Bitoxibacillin;
  • bushes affected by terry, I immediately dig up and destroy, as they are not amenable to treatment. Terry can be determined by the red-purple color of the leaves, which become terry in appearance.

After picking gooseberries and black currants, I:

  • I spray the leaves with Medex or Bordeaux mixture in the presence of anthracnose or septoria;
  • I spray the plants with Topaz from powdery mildew.

And in late autumn, I process gooseberry and currant bushes as follows:

  • I cut out all diseased branches and burn them;
  • I loosen the trunk circle, collect the leaves.

If all the above measures are carried out in a timely manner, then no diseases and pests will attack gooseberries and currants, and you will be able to harvest a bountiful harvest of these tasty and healthy berries.
