First of all, I will tell you how to deal with various diseases inherent in potatoes. The full list is quite extensive, I will describe the most common ones. The nature of their occurrence can be any: viral, bacterial or fungal, the impact leads to a deterioration in the quality of the fruit and the death of young bushes.

Scab

The disease is caused by exposure to specific pathogens that have the strongest effect on young root crops with delicate and thin skin, causing dry, hard spots to appear on their surface. With the aggravation of the condition, the spots grow and form a dense rough crust. Scab has a detrimental effect on the eyes of the fetus, reducing overall germination, and during long-term storage, infected tubers quickly rot. It is quite troublesome to fight the disease, it is easier to carry out preventive calibration during planting, carefully examining and choosing only strong healthy tubers for the garden.

Aphid

Aphid lives, feeds and breeds on potato tops. Due to the fact that adult females have wings, insects very quickly infect all plants, detrimental to the growth and vegetation of plants, as well as carrying various infections and pathogens. You can fight aphids by spraying with specialized preparations and fumigating with tobacco dust.

late blight

A fungal disease affects the entire potato bush. More often than others, early varieties fall ill. After the flowering period, dark spots appear on the leaves, which can be the first signs of infection. The danger of late blight is that when harvesting, there are no visible signs of the disease on the tubers, the first putrefactive spots will appear later, almost a month after harvesting for storage.

With late blight, it is best to act proactively: select only strong and healthy tubers for planting, observe crop rotation and competent agricultural technology.

As a fight against these pests, I use both folk methods and chemical agents. Each of the options has its pros and cons.

Folk recipes are environmentally friendly and safe for plants and humans, but they often lose to professional formulations.

So with regard to the Colorado potato beetle, the following control options will be effective:

  • manual collection (well applicable in small areas, but the method cannot guarantee a long-term result);
  • dusting with ash (crushed ash is sprayed over potatoes, using up to 10 kg per one hundred square meters, the procedure is repeated every 15 days);
  • irrigation with infusions and decoctions (odorous herbs and plants with tart juice are used - tar, walnut walnut, poplar, tobacco, garlic, celandine, the procedure is repeated every week and after the loss of strong precipitation);
  • planting in the aisles of spicy herbs (marigold, calendula, coriander, violets).

Modern chemicals are effective, but often they are extremely toxic and unsafe for humans - they can cause allergies. However, the effectiveness of the action is rated extremely highly - after processing, the potato gets rid of pests for a long time and grows comfortably, increasing the root mass.

Typically, such preparations are used for spraying solutions. I must say right away that after applying such a tool, it will be impossible to use the tops.

Potato diseases and pests must be dealt with, otherwise you risk getting a bad harvest in the fall.
