1. Airlock

Especially if the heating has not yet been turned on. The reverse draft begins: warm air from the street moves inside the house and pulls smoke along with it.

2. No air supply
I regularly forget that for good traction, air must come from somewhere. As a rule, there is enough natural air circulation in the house. But if it becomes insufficient, for example, all windows and doors are closed, and the cracks in the walls and floor are sealed, then the flame in the furnace flares up badly. It is necessary to open at least a window for the thrust to become stable.
