I have no doubt that the relevance of the article will be most welcome. Spring is on the threshold, nature comes to life and the need to change something in your garden wakes up. In winter, all construction work is postponed due to severe weather, and in the spring there are no options to postpone construction indefinitely.
My wife, throughout the winter months, asked me to pave the front porch with paving slabs. It’s not that I was strongly against it, on the contrary, I had a desire to improve the porch, but I was afraid that I would not be able to cope with the amount of work alone.
My friend recommended to seek help from a team of builders. From his words, it was said that he had already used the services of professionals, and was satisfied with the result.
After listening to a friend, I did just that. First of all, I found a team of builders and figured out what materials would be needed for the job. When I met with the foreman, I was satisfied. The person instilled confidence, and we immediately signed a contract. The builder provided a list of materials needed for laying tiles.
But the list was different from what he had imagined. At the top of the list were paving slabs and granite screenings. The question arose in my head, where is the sand, because I was sure that it was impossible to lay tiles without sand. All my friends and relatives did just that, and the thought that it could be somehow else did not even arise.
But an experienced builder assured me of something else, that tiles should only be laid on granite screenings. He is assured of a multi-year guarantee on styling. The foreman convinced me, and I trusted a professional.
Another foreman asked to buy herbicide powder for weed control. This was required in order to get rid of the grass in advance between the tile joints.
If we talk about sand as a substrate for tiles, even in the most cleaned, weed seeds remain. This 100% portends the appearance of thickets between the tiles. Therefore, many construction teams refuse sand as the basis for paving slabs.
The advantage of granite screening over sand is that it is heavier than sand. A mixture of granite and cement creates a solid base through which weeds will not break through.
And these are not all the advantages of this method of laying tiles. Granite screening has other advantages. For example, over the years, the soil will not be pressed through and displaced. The entire load will fall on a rigid frame made of granite and cement. In addition, I cover this mixture with a special mesh for better fixation.
So, the tiles were laid for us, and I am delighted. The team performed all the work at the highest level. Now in our courtyard amazing tiles flaunt not only on the porch, but also on the path to the gate. My wife loves it every day. A year has passed since work and not a single blade of grass has leaked through the seams. With sand, I would not be sure of such a result.
Neighbors in the area laid paving slabs on the sand, and now they do not know what to do with the grass mat between the seams. After all, no matter how they try to clean the sidewalk - weeds break out every 2-3 weeks.
