The manufacture of wristwatches began at the dawn of the formation of the USSR as a state. It was enough for the state to get a little stronger in terms of economic stability, as domestic diplomatic figures began a negotiation process with watchmakers from Switzerland. Already in 1929, the country bought out two large American watch manufacturing enterprises that had suffered financial collapse (bankruptcy). However, the acquisition of these factories was not enough to launch a full-scale production of wristwatches. A whole decade was spent on establishing the process of supplying watch movements and other necessary parts. They were brought from France. Only by 1938 did the population of the USSR see the first Soviet wristwatches.
