I like summer very much. Probably, many readers will agree that summer is the most carefree and beautiful time. You can relax in nature, fry barbecue, go fishing, go hiking, spend the night in a tent. But there is one big and annoying drawback in all this - mosquitoes!
I have a special score with these bloodsuckers. They ruined more than one outdoor vacation for me when I forgot to take mosquito repellent with me. I could not enjoy the moment, because annoying insects were squeaking above my ear and biting into all open areas of the body.
I want to say that even with the availability of mosquito repellents, which today are full of store shelves, it is not always possible to completely get rid of the presence of bloodsuckers. The fact is that the period of action of store funds is several hours. I like to get out into nature with an overnight stay for one or two days. So I have to carry almost a separate bag of various products: sprays, ointments, tablets, spirals, etc.
I recently had the pleasure of talking to a ranger. I asked how he manages to escape from the invasion of blood-sucking insects. And the huntsman shared with me two very effective methods. Now I only use them. Long hikes and overnight stays in nature have become more pleasant and calm.
1. First method
You need to find an anthill somewhere. Agree, in nature this is not such a difficult task. Somewhere there is bound to be an ant bunch.
Do not think that you will not have to catch insects. All you need is formic acid. I don’t know about you, but I learned about its existence as a child. My friends and I put sticks in the anthill, and then licked them, enjoying the sour taste.
The acid produced by the ants repels mosquitoes. The method is as follows: take a small piece of cloth and soak it in water. You can not wet the fabric, but wet will absorb acid better.
Put the fabric on the anthill, wait about 10 minutes and turn it over. Again, wait 5-10 minutes.
The rag will be saturated with formic acid. This will become clear by the specific smell. Bloodthirsters can't stand the smell of acid.
Make sure there are no ants left on the cloth. Wipe all exposed areas of the body with it. By the way, first make sure that you are not allergic to acid. Wipe a small area of skin with a cloth and see if irritation appears.
After using acid, mosquitoes will not overcome you for a long time, up to 24 hours. If you realize that you are allergic to formic acid, use the second method.
2. Second method
It is also based on the use of natural remedies. You'll have to look in the trees tinder fungus. This is a mushroom that you probably often noticed on the trunks, but did not know what it was called. As a rule, tinder fungi grow on birches.
Cut off the tree fungus and slice thinly. It is dense, but not too hard, so it is easy to cut.
Set the tinder slices on fire. They will begin to smolder, the smoke formed at the same time scares away the bloodsuckers. The advantage of this method is its absolute harmlessness and safety.
It is best to leave the smoldering tinder fungus indoors, for example, in a tent. But it also works outdoors. Surround the resting place with a few smoldering tinder fungus, and mosquitoes will not dare to approach you.
