As they say, there are no comrades for the taste and color, and the attitude to interior trends is no exception. Someone will chase fashion and try to decorate their apartment according to all design canons, while someone will consider the techniques they see inappropriate. Novate.ru decided to look into this issue and discuss some of the trends in terms of their practicality. This does not mean that they cannot be used, it is just better to think a few times.
1. Glass tables
Glass countertops raise questions for many. There is a strong opinion that this is a capricious material that is very easy to damage. In fact, in the manufacture of furniture, strong and durable tempered glass is used, which is resistant to any negative factors, including moisture, temperature changes, large weight (therefore, it will not be possible to withstand heavy dishes with hot dishes labor). Another plus is that small contaminants - and liquid too - cannot penetrate the glass structure, unlike the same tree. Such countertops fit perfectly into the interior, look airy and do not “cut off” part of the room, letting light through. Also, glass is completely environmentally friendly and does not require additional processing with aggressive household chemicals.
However, with all the positive aspects of the glass tabletop, it also has a number of disadvantages that can completely discourage the desire to use it. There are stains on the surface, so just wiping the table with a damp cloth after a meal will not be enough. Under the furniture, the legs of those sitting and the mess, if any, are visible, so it’s better not to hide anything under the table in an attempt to quickly restore order in the kitchen. As you can see, the transparency of the material is not only its plus, but also a minus. In addition, it will not work to serve quietly - every time you put a plate on the table, a rumble will be heard throughout the apartment, which is also not very pleasant.
Note: No less difficulties with glass sinks. Transparent bowl-shaped models, although they look original, do not clutter up the interior of the bathroom and add lightness to the interior, causing a lot of problems. Limescale marks, toothpaste stains, dried water splashes. You will have to wash and wipe the sink dry after each use, and not everyone is ready for this.
2. Velor ottoman in the hallway
Very beautiful and elegant furniture that adds luxury to the interior. At first glance, it seems that such an ottoman is an ideal solution for a hallway, as it does not take up much space and creates a comfortable area to sit down and change shoes. That's just in perfect condition, the furniture does not stay long. If there are small children at home who love to beat the ottoman with dirty shoes, or pets who love to sleep on soft surface, you will have to spend time at least once a week to clean the material from wool and pollution. Now imagine what will happen to the ottoman after five to ten such wet cleanings? That's the same.
3. Velvet facades on the kitchen set
According to the designers, this technique makes the interior of the kitchen expensive and noble - the notes of the classics always work that way. Velvet facades look fabulous, add texture. The hand reaches out to them like that: I want to touch, stroke. The material does not leave fingerprints, but... this does not mean that it is resistant to all other negative factors.
If water gets on the facades, a thin spray mark becomes visible from afar. And while washing dishes, such consequences cannot be avoided. Also, do not forget that the water is hard and the spots that remain from it are white, which means they are even more striking. Therefore, always carry a rag with you and be patient - it will definitely come in handy.
4. Wooden slats
After this element became a trend in 2020, thousands of people used it to decorate their apartments. Moreover, the methods of application are identical: slats of the same size are taken with the same pitch and mounted on the wall as a decor or used as a partition for zoning rooms. Looks nice, but already tired. In addition, no one wants his apartment to look like hundreds of others.
Speaking from the point of view of practicality, there are also some nuances here. A huge amount of dust is clogged between the rails, and if they are also located in the hallway, then there is much more pollution. Now imagine how long cleaning will take, because you will have to walk with rags on the slats more than once or twice. If you are not afraid of this alignment and hackneyed rails, then go ahead.

5. Black sink
Sinks of this color are very common in design apartments. And this is not at all surprising, because it has a beautiful and spectacular appearance, especially if the kitchen has “supporting” details of the same shade. However, if there are none, then the sink becomes a bright accent that attracts attention. It is universal, fits into any style, no matter what it is: laconic minimalism or cozy scandi. The stores offer a wide variety of models: round, rectangular and square, monochrome and interspersed with other colors, matte and glossy. Modern sinks are most often made of ceramics, natural or artificial stone - materials that are reliable, durable and hygienic.
Now let's move on to the disadvantages. You will be happy and satisfied exactly until the moment you wash the dishes for the first time. The black shell is very finicky and requires constant care. If you ignore it, you will end up with a unkempt, splattered mess, because pollution and limescale are more noticeable on a black background. Therefore, be prepared for the fact that cleaning the kitchen will take much longer than usual.
6. Soft bedside table
When decorating the interior of the bedroom, you want to think through everything to the smallest detail so that the room is cozy, relaxing and inviting to rest. In this context, the installation of a soft bedside table is quite reasonable: no to sharp corners and hard materials. However, in reality, everything is much more prosaic. Dust sticks to the soft material, and if there are cats in the apartment who like to sharpen their claws on any surface, then puffs will certainly remain on the cabinet. There is no need to talk about the beautiful appearance of furniture after such an act of vandalism. Of course, you can always close the door to the bedroom, but what if you are used to sleeping with cats?
