The Jumper company produces popular and surprisingly cheap laptops with quite interesting parameters. The best example of this was the EZBook 2, which can still be considered the most affordable laptop.
Yes, the EZBook 2 is based on a tablet processor, and its memory is soldered and therefore cannot be expanded. But is it possible to find another MacBook Air clone for 9-10 thousand rubles? Unlikely.
Even for Chinese laptops, this is an extremely low price for a current device. At the same time, the performance of EZBook 2 is sufficient to perform any office tasks.
But nothing stands still, so Jumper updated its lineup with an extremely interesting device, which became the company’s first laptop with a Gemini Lake processor - the Jumper EZBook X4.
Let's see what happened.
Appearance
According to a long-established tradition, the Jumper EZBook X4 received a 14-inch screen and an appropriate form factor.
Perhaps a laptop (this time the device received this name without a stretch) can be classified as ultrabooks or portable laptops: its dimensions fit into A4 format, and even a little smaller - 322 x 222 x 13.7 mm. With a total weight of 1.3 kg, this is a very good option.
This weight is achieved due to the fact that the Jumper EZBook X4 received an aluminum alloy body. The light color and pleasant metallic shine only add to the attractiveness of the device.
The laptop turned out to be incredibly minimalistic. The only element that gives away its origin is the logo on the lid.
There is only 1 loop, for the entire length of the body. There is no play, it holds firmly in any of the permissible angles - up to 160 degrees.
The edges of the laptop are decorated with neat slots for ports. The back cover has the only removable (officially) element - a window for accessing the hard drive and RAM.
The shape of the body panels is slightly rounded, so to prevent the Jumper EZBook X4 from sliding on the table, the developers equipped it with 4 thick rubber feet.
Thanks to this, the device stands firmly on its “legs” and allows you to open it with one hand the first time. A small slot at the bottom helps with this.
Display
One of the main topics for discussion of the previous Jumper model was the screen - either IPS or TN. Either good or not very good.
The Jumper EZBook X4's screen is excellent: the laptop has a 14-inch Full HD display (1920x1080). The matrix this time is definitely IPS, since there is no color inversion, and the viewing angle is the usual 178 degrees.
The color and contrast of the panel are quite good, as befits a cheap IPS matrix. Apparently, the response is also good, since dynamic games are displayed normally - without loops and other unpleasant features of cheap monitors. The grain is almost invisible.
The frames around the display have clearly been carried over from the previous model, so if you want a frameless option, you'll have to wait a little.
The EZBook X4 has become the basic version, on the basis of which the company will release more than one modification.
Keyboard and touchpad
I've always liked Jumper laptops for their keyboards. The EZBook X4 received exactly the same as the EZBook 2 - full-size, with a soft response, a pleasant click and a slight notebook-like movement.
However, it really feels good to type on. The only question that raises questions is the poor placement of the power button - in the upper right corner, next to the function keys. You might miss.
There are no additional buttons - Jumper engineers have always stood for regular QWERTY. However, this time it has a nice white backlight. It works great both during the day to increase clarity and attract your own attention, and at night - everything is visible, but it doesn’t hurt your eyes.
The touchpad is frankly copied from the new line of Apple laptops. It's just huge. And, surprisingly, incredibly responsive: despite all my hatred for this type of pointing device, the EZBook X4's touchpad is pleasant to use. No phantom clicks were detected, gestures were processed correctly.
Hardware platform
The new product operates on the Intel Gemini Lake platform. The developers preferred the Celeron N4100 processor with four cores. The nominal processor clock frequency is 1.1 GHz, but in turbo mode this figure reaches 2.4 GHz.
Graphics – The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 600 is responsible for top-notch graphics processing. You can view the tests Here.
In general, the new generation of Intel processors shows a stable superiority over the 7th generation by 25-30 percent. Moreover, the N4100 outperforms even Intel Core m processors in multi-threaded computing, second only to them in single-threaded operation.
Essentially, the M-line is no longer relevant - even the graphics in Gemini Lake are faster. And after all, the N4100 is now the weakest of the presented quad-core models of these processors with reduced power consumption.
In the basic version, the laptop has 4 GB of RAM, but it is possible to increase it up to 8 GB using the free SO-DIMM DDR3 laptop format slot.
All data is stored on the M.2 module, which can hold 128 GB of various information. Replacement is carried out through a window on the back cover, but there is no second slot. In addition, there is a slot for Micro SD cards up to 128 GB.
Multimedia capabilities
Despite its budget position, the Jumper EZBook X4 stands out among its peers with excellent sound - both from stereo speakers and through wired interfaces.
The latter are represented by a 3.5-mm audio jack and a digital audio-video output HDMI 1.4b with support for video transmission up to 4K/30 fps. The processor perfectly handles video files in this quality, and even allows you to actively work on a second monitor of the appropriate resolution.
In addition to HDMI, the new product is equipped with 2 USB 3.0 connectors. Other interfaces are wireless only, dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. There is also a 2 MP front camera for web chats.
Autonomy
The Jumper EZBook X4 is equipped with a 9600 mAh battery, which is charged by a 12V/2A power supply. Unfortunately, this is a standard tablet unit, so charging time is an impressive 4 hours. Fast charging is not provided.
It’s good that the new energy-efficient Gemini Lake architecture with 8 W TPD allows the laptop to work with an office load for more than a working day - about 9 hours. You can watch videos on it for up to 7 hours.
Good performance and bright screen.
conclusions
At the moment, Jumper laptops hold the palm, being the cheapest of quality designs. The EZBook 2 costs just $170. Cheaper? Hardly.
As you can see from the published tests, the X4 is close in performance to the latest generation Xiaomi Mi12 and similar laptops on Intel Core M. As such, it should be compared to laptops starting at $500.
But thanks to the collaboration between Gearbest and Jumper, the X4 starts at just $299. Perhaps you simply won’t find any analogues, and even at such a price, especially since all customers receive a USB hub and a wired mouse as a gift.
The choice is obvious - you have to take it!
