Leagoo T5 was released in 2017, and is one of the most interesting smartphones of the Leagoo brand, thanks to its attractive price combined with quite broad capabilities.
It is positioned as an affordable solution for taking high-quality pictures, thanks to a dual main and 13-megapixel front camera with flash. In addition, the device has impressive amounts of memory, a display made by Sharp, an Awinic audio chip and a fast fingerprint scanner on the front panel.
Leagoo T5 equipment
The smartphone comes in a flat, tastefully designed box, with additional boxes for individual accessories. The package includes:
- headset;
- USB-MicroUSB cable;
- power adapter;
- silicone protective pad on the body;
- “needle” for removing the SIM tray;
- user guide.
Design, ergonomics, buttons and connectors
The smartphone is made in a stylish and thin (7.9 mm) case, the main part of which consists of aluminum alloy. Thanks to a special abrasive treatment, its surface is matte and pleasant to the touch. texture, which, together with the streamlined shape of the side edges, contributes to the comfortable holding of the device in hand.
The front panel is covered with Gorilla Glass 4, known for its increased resistance to scratches and abrasions. The edges of the glass received a slightly curved shape using 2.5D technology. The model is available in black or in a combination color, which is distinguished by the golden color of the back side combined with the white color of the front panel.
Most of the external elements have a classic arrangement on the body.
Above the screen you can find a speaker, light and proximity sensors, a front camera and a flash. On the right side edge there are mechanical power/lock volume buttons. On the left edge there is a hybrid tray that can accommodate 2 SIMs or an external MicroSD memory drive along with one SIM.
The bottom edge contains the following elements: a headphone jack, a MicroUSB port (supporting OTG), holes for the main speaker and microphone. An additional microphone for noise reduction is located on the back side, near the dual photo module and flash LED.
Fingerprint sensor and control elements
The fingerprint scanner is conveniently located under the screen, in an oval recess on the glass. The manufacturer used a 360-degree touch sensor that instantly responds to touches and accurately recognizes fingerprints. When the screen is active, the scanner can be used instead of the "Back" button, which, along with other controls, is built into the system interface. The settings provide the ability to change the order of the navigation bar buttons, or hide it altogether.
Display
Leagoo T5 is equipped with a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920x1080) IPS display from Sharp. As you know, the screens of this manufacturer are of high quality and reliability. Thanks to the high pixel density (401 ppi), the user sees clear images, smooth icons, interface elements and fonts. Vibrant, rich colors are reproduced from virtually any viewing angle, with 94 percent NTSC coverage and high contrast levels (1500:1).
To individually adjust color temperature, contrast and other image parameters, you can use the MiraVision utility. The display has a fairly high backlight brightness reserve, so even in clear, sunny weather the user does not have to look for shade or cover the display to see its contents. And the capacitive touchscreen demonstrates good responsiveness, responding quickly and accurately to touch.
Performance, memory
The Leagoo T5 hardware is powered by an 8-core, 64-bit MediaTek 6750T chipset with integrated Mali-T860MP2 graphics. The maximum frequency of processor cores can reach up to 1.5 GHz. The smartphone also uses memory modules manufactured by Samsung: 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of ROM. The internal storage capacity is more than sufficient for storing files and installing software. If you still need more free space, the device owner can use a MicroSD memory card with a capacity of up to 256 GB.
Despite the far from impressive performance in synthetic benchmarks, the power of the 8-core Leagoo T5 processor is sufficient not only for processing trivial tasks, but also for playing Full HD video, as well as running resource-demanding 3D games. Of course, for games like WoT Blitz to run smoothly at maximum graphics quality settings, you will need much more powerful hardware. To avoid FPS drops, it is enough to reduce texture detail and shadow quality in the game settings.
Software
Leagoo T5 comes with Android 7.0 Nougat operating system, with built-in support for multi-window mode. The ability to split the screen is especially important for models with a large diagonal and a sufficient level of performance required for simultaneous operation of several applications. By the way, Leagoo T5 has a 5.5” display and demonstrates excellent multitasking, thanks to 4 GB of RAM.
The manufacturer installed its own shell (Leagoo OS) on top of the system. The shell interface does not have a general application menu. Instead, all the icons, drawn in iOS style, are located on the desktops. Leagoo OS also provides support for a variety of gestures to simplify device control. For example, a three-finger swipe is used to take a screenshot, and a double tap is used to wake up the screen.
Among other useful additions, it is worth noting the presence of a “pocket mode” Pocket Mode, which, if necessary, can be activated in the settings. Based on proximity sensor information, Pocket Mode detects when the smartphone is in your pocket and Increases the maximum ringtone volume level to the limit so that the user does not miss important call.
Cameras
The main camera of Leagoo T5 uses a dual module, which consists of a 5-lens sensor Sony 13 MP, with a pixel size of 1.12 microns and an aperture of F/2.0, as well as an additional OmniVision sensor for 5 MP. This configuration allows you to take portrait and macro photos with a bokeh effect. With a sufficient level of lighting, the camera quickly focuses on objects, and during video recording, in addition to tap focusing, an automatic focus system is available. Video recording is carried out in Full HD resolution at 30 FPS.
The interface has an HDR mode, which is necessary for taking pictures with extended dynamic range, SLR mode, which simulates artistic background blur, as well as night and panoramic modes shooting. In addition, the interface contains a separate button for quickly switching between color and black and white shooting.
Due to the cost of the device, there is no point in hoping for results comparable to the level of flagships and camera phones. However, this smartphone is quite capable of replacing a regular digital camera for amateur photography. In good daylight, the device copes well with macro and portrait photography. The resulting photographs demonstrate good color reproduction, a sufficient level of sharpness and detail.
A decrease in sharpness is observed only at the edges of the frame, in general shots. When shooting at dusk, to combat digital noise, the photo is subject to automatic post-processing, which reduces grain to the detriment of detail. To get a good shot in low light, you can use dual LED flash.
On the front panel there is a pretty good front camera, which is represented by a 13-megapixel OmniVision sensor with an F/2.0 aperture. Suitable for both video chat and selfie shots. Thanks to the wide-angle lens (77.9°), several people can easily fit into the frame. To ensure acceptable selfie quality in low light conditions, a “soft” flash is provided.
Sound quality
The manufacturer equipped the smartphone with an Awinic audio chip, which is characterized by a fairly high signal-to-noise ratio (97 dB), while the total nonlinear distortion factor is only 0.008%. The amplifier helps transmit clear sound through the main speaker, with a high volume reserve. High-quality headphones provide sound close to Hi-Fi level with rich bass. Despite the fact that the Leagoo T5 cannot be compared with more serious audio equipment, many ordinary users will be quite satisfied with the musical component of this smartphone.
Battery life
The autonomy of the Leagoo T5 is ensured by a built-in 3000 mAh battery produced by LG. Judging by information from the manufacturer, the battery used in this smartphone is stable and highly durable. The main advantage of such a battery is its long service life: after 1000 charge and discharge cycles, the battery retains 80% of its original rated power.
Indicators of autonomy largely depend on the intensity of the load, as well as the individual characteristics of the device’s operation. Approximately, one charge is enough for a day of operation in moderate use mode, or for 8 hours of continuous video playback. To quickly replenish the charge, a 5V 2A power adapter is included in the kit.
Set of wireless interfaces
Leagoo T5 is designed to install 2 SIM cards and is compatible with 2G, 3G and 4G mobile networks (Bands 1,3,7,8,20). LTE Cat 6 support provides high-speed Internet access, as well as the ability to download files at speeds of up to 300 Mbps. Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4 GHz) modules are responsible for the wireless connection. The device is compatible with the following satellite navigation systems: GPS (A-GPS), GLONASS and BeiDou.
