Popular smartphone manufacturer UMIDIGI has announced a new budget smartphone A1 PRO, which is positioned as a “premium” and even “best” cheap smartphone on the market.

The “special” status of the smartphone is hinted at by the name borrowed from Xiaomi and the PRO prefix - however, it doesn’t really mean anything. However, a $100 smartphone turned out to be quite interesting and will definitely find its audience.

As a killer feature UMIDIGI A1 PRO offers a body design in the style of Samsung S8. Unfortunately, the company went for maximum cost reduction, so the spectacularly curved back cover with a glass tint is made of plastic.

In fact, this is a very good move - plastic is much nicer than metal in the hands, and does not require additional protection in the form of cases.

In addition, the use of a one-piece plastic cover gives hope that it is removable. Then we can find in the A1 PRO not a combined slot, but 3 full-fledged connectors: 2 for SIM cards and 1 for a memory card.

As you might expect, the new UMIDIGI is equipped with a 5.5-inch diagonal screen stretched to 18:9 - the most popular format in 2018.

The hardware platform uses the MediaTek MT6739 chipset with 3 GB of RAM.

The multimedia capabilities of the smartphone are based on a dual camera with 13 and 5 megapixel modules (apparently used to adjust color correction and the software “bokeh” effect).

There is USB-C, full support for all LTE bands and a fingerprint. An additional plus to the new product is pre-installed Android 8.1 Oreo.

In general, all of the above allows us to talk about UMUDIGI A1 PRO as an adequate alternative to budget Xiaomi smartphones, offering more powerful hardware that requires sacrifices in the form of appearance.

For comparison: UMIDIGI A1 Pro costs exactly $100 (if you buy via the link and read the terms of the promotion). For this amount you can buy Xiaomi Redmi Note 5a. A simple 5-inch Redmi 5a will cost a little less.

By paying an additional $20, you can qualify for a Redmi 5 with an 18:9 screen – but in a minimal configuration. Redmi 4X and Redmi 5 with 3 GB of RAM are almost twice as expensive, costing $140.
