Appearance
The packaging of the Xiaomi Notebook Air resembles that of Apple. Inside there is a familiar set: a charger, documents and the gadget itself.
The power supply is of its own design; it will be difficult to find a replacement. But it’s impossible to disassemble.
Xiaomi Notebook Air looks decent and expensive, like all solutions in the premium segment. The body is made entirely of aluminum, does not bend under pressure, and there are no seams with large gaps. It is curious that there are no inscriptions or logos on the lid. It requires little effort to open.
On the reverse side there is a place for two AKG speakers radiating downwards. Not the best solution, but there are no other holes - and this makes the case even stronger and more monolithic.
The screen tilts 130 degrees. There is only one fastening loop, which is great.
The keyboard layout is reminiscent of Apple: to increase the volume, you just need to press F3, and to close a window, you need Fn+Alt+F4. The key travel is small and there is no play. There is also a switchable key backlight - it goes out automatically if the keyboard is not used for a while.
Unfortunately, there was only room for two wired interfaces on board: USB Type-C and traditional USB.
Performance
Xiaomi Mi Air is equipped with a dual-core Intel Core M3 6Y30 based on Skylake architecture. The processor frequency, depending on the load, is balanced between 900 and 2200 MHz. The maximum temperature before throttling is 70 degrees. As a result, the processor loses up to 25% of its power.
The younger model of Xiaomi laptops, unlike the older one, did not receive a discrete video accelerator. Therefore, the user will have to be content with integrated Intel HD. However, this is more than enough for most tasks associated with using a business laptop with a diagonal of up to 14 inches. The video core supports hardware decoding of 4K video, and Half-Life 2 or Skyrim are just toys for it, even at maximum graphics.
The Mi Air 12 has enough RAM for comfortable surfing, working in Office, and even programming. A fast 128 GB hard drive also contributes to this. An M2 connector is used to connect an SSD drive, so if desired, it can be replaced with a more capacious one.
The OS is Windows 10 Home - which means not a drop of extra resources occupied by the system.
Xiaomi Notebook Air is capable of working in Wi-Fi networks using b/g/n/ac protocols. The Intel 8260D2W chip is responsible for managing networks. Both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands are supported.
Display
Despite the tablet diagonal of 12.5 inches, the screen has an excellent FullHD (1920×1080) matrix made using IPS technology. The viewing angles are a fair 178 degrees, which means there is no color inversion, distortion and many other disadvantages of low-quality matrices.
