Jumping into space or miracles with GPS

I am now on the Finnlines ferry, carrying me from Helsinki to Travemünde (this is in Germany). Photographed through a porthole in his cabin dark Baltic Sea, he began to post it on Facebook, and was surprised that Facebook offered location - ferry.

He showed several options: a ferry from Finland to Germany, and specifically three ferries that go this route - my Finnlady, Finnmate and Finnstar.

I began to speculate, how to make the high seas as a point location of a moving ferry determined. I decided that the only way is to create a ferry map 1200 km long (all his way), and with a very small width, but it was much easier.

It was found that when the phone is connected to the ferry Wi-Fi (satellite internet is) and is a airplane mode, its location is always defined in the port of Helsinki, which account all these ferries.

If the airplane switch off the phone after a few seconds, starts to show real location and offers a very different nearby locations.

I have long heard that using Wi-Fi, you can determine the location, but now he saw it "live".
