Power CCTV cameras. The unexpected discovery

Accidentally I discovered that some cameras have a video stabilizer power infrared illumination.

The vast majority of security cameras without POE (Power over LAN cable) is fed a constant voltage of 12 volts. Because of long wires, especially if used for power availability conductor LAN cable (again without POE), voltage may fall significantly.

I have studied the behavior of the existing models have 8 IP-based cameras at reduced voltage. The study follows the camera part:

1. YIISPO YI-HN330-V20 plastic dome on the SC2235 for $ 15.02 (ammo1.livejournal.com/1024009.html).
2. Asecam plastic dome on SC2235
for $ 17.84
3. Azishn metal dome on SONY IMX323
for $ 24.99 (Great camera, by the way).
4. Kingkonghome UDB30-I236-H.265 metal dome
for $ 25.41) (ammo1.livejournal.com/1021650.html).
5. Azishn metal on SONY IMX323
for $ 27.63.
6. SMTKEY SMT-HI3516E-V metal on SONY IMX323
for $ 28.48 (ammo1.livejournal.com/1027764.html).
7. Asecam metal on SONY IMX323
for $ 32.06.
8. Asecam metal 5MP on SONY IMX178
for $ 39.13.

For supply voltages of 12 volts, all eight cameras consume 94-136 mA without illumination and 253-460 mA IR. At the time of switching the shutter IR-Cut intake briefly rises to 100-150 mA. Note that the backlight output from different cameras differs by more than half. For calculation of the illumination power supply current I subtracted from the current without illumination with illumination and multiplying the result by 12 volts.

It was found that all cells retain operability at lower supply voltage to 7.5 volts, but not all cells with the same voltage operates IR illumination. When the supply voltage is 8.5 volts lights from all the cameras start to work, but many camera light barely.

In three chambers undervoltage illumination light substantially brighter. In the light of these three chambers made on four high-power LEDs and with the same mind. I measured consumption four chambers with the supply voltage 12, 11, 10 and 9 volts.

At dome Azishn illumination power incident on the camera 13, 48 and 81% with a decrease in the supply voltage up to 11, 10 and 9 volts respectively. Approximately the same number of drops and brightness.
In Azishn camera in a rectangular housing the backlight output falls not so much, but the two chambers Asecam behave a completely different way: power their lighting virtually unchanged with a significant decrease in the supply voltage. It was also found that these cells remain without illumination efficiency while reducing the supply voltage to 4 volts (!).

Two conclusions can be drawn from my little research:

1. IP-camera can operate at reduced voltage, but most of them are nocturnal illumination brightness thus be lower.

2. Some cameras have an internal regulator, which powers the electronics not only cameras, but also light. Such cameras operate at a lower supply voltage without any deterioration of the characteristics (brightness is not reduced). Food such chambers can be connected by thin wires and fear reducing the supply voltage up to 9 volts. Unfortunately, to know in advance whether there is a stabilizer, it is impossible - only indirectly on the appearance of illumination.
