Already many times I wrote about the infinite cunning fraudsters lure money by any means. Recently, there was another kind of deception, detected Telecom Daily journalist Ilya Shatilina.
This is fraud based on the possibility to replace your phone number when calling from ip-telephony. If you go into the technical details, in cellular networks the number is not requested, and the switch is transmitted caller. When the call goes through the VoIP-Gateway, you can substitute any number (for example, because your mobile number is put Skype).
Scammers come up with how to take advantage of this opportunity.
You can call numbers from your loved one and to announce that he was in trouble (or, for example, was detained by the police) and start demanding money. Can call from your phone and bank card details to lure, telling, for example, about breaking your card and asked to indicate passport details and the code word, exactly how does your bank, and then to find out all the information from the bank, pretending to be you. There are other types of fraud with the substitution of numbers.
Please remember, the fraudsters can substitute any number. If you can see when an incoming call the number of your bank, insurance company, government organization, friend or relative, this does not mean that you really calling someone whose number it is. Be careful!
