The beginning of October - the perfect time for planting tulips. The temperature has not dropped below zero and the sun does not heat the ground above 10 degrees. It is in such conditions tulips can favorably take root and gain enough nutrients for the winter.

Its tulips I planted just a few days ago - on the weekends, so this article would like to dedicate it to them. I'll tell you about that, on what points you should pay attention and what mistakes do not need to make. I'll start with the most popular, in my opinion.

1. Wrong choice of landing sites

Tulips flowers very demanding for them is very important place where they will grow. Always select only the sunny places. Never plant the tulips in the shadows. Even if the shadow of "covers" a bed for 3-4 hours in daylight hours, it is better to choose another location.

Make sure the place for planting tulips is well protected from wind and drafts. Otherwise, young flowers just bow to the ground, or even break. However, overdoing it is not worth. If the plant tulips in the bushes, where there is no wind, it may not be enough light. Besides, what sense to plant flowers in the bushes where they were hard to see.

In addition, the bed that must be protected from sun and wind, land on it should be domesticated.

Never plant the tulips in clay soils, they have poor drainage.

2. Poor soil drainage

For tulips is very important good soil drainage. It's almost the main thing that you should pay attention. If the landing site collects water (after rain, melted water, etc.) bulbs be melted quickly, and will rot match. If the accumulation of moisture frosts descend, the bulbs immediately freeze.

You need to pay attention even to the presence of groundwater. Their large number of negative impact on the wintering grounds, the growth and development of roses.

If the low land, as I have (in the Leningrad Region in the swamp), it is better to make a separate high flower bed next to a ditch or other drainage facilities.

3. Too acidic soil

Tulips will not grow in acidic soils. Favorable of all for them, neutral environment.

Before planting, be sure to check the acidity of the soil. You can do this with purchased or device which can be purchased for 500-1000 rubles in any gardening store or improvised means. Earlier I once wrote about checking soil acidity. Nothing complicated about it.

4. unfavorable temperature

The most favorable temperature for growing tulips from 8 to 9 degrees above zero. And we are talking about the temperature of the soil rather than the air.

If the soil temperature exceeds 10 degrees, the bulbs can easily be ill Fusarium or other similar diseases which develop during warm weather.

If the soil temperature drops below + 7 / + 6 degrees, it is likely that the bulbs do not have time to form roots, they are able to spend the winter.

5. Wrong selection of bulbs

Before planting, be sure to check each bulb for the presence of dark spots, physical damage, soft areas, etc. Only healthy bulbs can overwinter and begin to develop in tulip.

Never inspect the bulbs on the principle - put everything on the table and took the bad. It is necessary to examine each individually, or miss a lot of marriage.

6. Lack of disinfection before planting

Before planting tulips (and, as before planting garlic and many other plants), each bulb must be disinfected. You can do it with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. (Lower bulb for 30-60 minutes). This will get rid of many harmful bacteria and even fungi.

If you do not make these mistakes, tulips favorably outsource cold and delight you in the next year.
