Pets are good, of course, but not when it comes to insects. I once had ants in my wooden bathhouse. These small pests gnawed through all the lower logs. As a result, I was forced to change them. The place where I loved to rest has turned into a real home for ants.
How much energy and nerves were spent and how much pest control methods were tried is scary to remember. At first, I thought that I could get rid of the insects by pouring boiling water over them. The ants did disappear, but soon returned. My bathhouse is quite old (12 years already), there is no decoration inside. I just decided to do as our ancestors did and covered the logs with a layer of lime.
I do not argue that in living nature ants are very useful creatures. But why do I need them? Also in the bath! Many insects like to settle in log cabins. They undermine logs, eat mold, fungus, and as a result, the structure may collapse.
I also resorted to the help of boric acid. To increase the productivity of the method, I mixed it with other ingredients: a spoonful of honey and 30 grams of sugar. The resulting mixture was poured into the lid and placed "treat" near the abode of ants.
Some people mix boric acid powder with sweet jam. There is also an option for which mashed potatoes, an egg and all the same boric acid are used. Small balls are made from the resulting mass and placed in places where insects were seen.
Having feasted on "dessert", the ants disappeared for a while. But soon I again saw the insects in the bath.
One of my neighbors tried to control pests with mint and parsley planted near the bathhouse. Allegedly, insects are afraid of the smell of these plants. I was looking for a method that would help me forget about ants once and for all.
Among the folk methods, the sulfur checker is the most popular. It is set on fire in the room, then all windows and doors are tightly closed. After a few hours, you need to heat the bath, and you can use it only after seven days.
This option seemed to me not very suitable.
Then chemicals came to mind. At the hardware store, a smiling saleswoman advised me to choose something from granules, gels, powders, or traps. I took everything! The ant fight was epic and I decided to act decisively!
I abundantly filled the ground around the bath with a solution that removes pests. Inside the room, I laid out the traps, carefully smeared the logs with gel and sprinkled all this on top with powder. The very next morning I admired the result: the enemy was defeated.
A few days later, I did not find a single ant in the bath! After a while, I will consolidate the result in a similar way. I hope that pests won't get in the way of me again!
