When severe frosts set in outside, the water in the barrels turns into an ice block. There is a chance that this can cause the container to burst. Many are too lazy to drain the water from the barrels during the winter, or simply want to leave them with water, so as not to make their way to the site in the spring, in order to throw snow into the barrels. The barrel rupture occurs due to the fact that the water, having turned into ice, begins to exert pressure on the bottom and walls. They may not withstand and crack, and the bottom will simply fly out. To prevent this from happening, the center of pressure must be shifted to some other place.
This is where a plastic bottle comes to the rescue, to which a weight is attached from below. You need to take such a container so that its upper part sticks out of the water, and the lower one is submerged in water.
Pour sand into the barrel so that it lies evenly on the bottom, or place plastic bottles filled with water. Thanks to these manipulations, the center of gravity will shift.
After the water freezes, the ice will begin to press not on the barrel, but on what lies at its bottom. Thus, it will turn out to keep the barrel intact and safe.
I want to note that the region of residence is of great importance. If the dacha is located in the south or somewhere in the central area, the described option will be salvation for you.
Rescue stick
You can use a simpler method. Place a suitable piece of wood, a log, or a shovel handle inside the barrel. At the same time, place the piece of wood so that it is tilted. Please note that the timber should rise 20 centimeters above the water.
As the water freezes, ice will begin to rise up the log. This will reduce the pressure on the sides of the barrel. As a result, it will remain intact.
