As a rule, the winter season in the country does not pass without destruction. If the greenhouses are not securely fastened, then strong gusts of wind will blow them away. With a large layer of snow on the roofs of greenhouses, they simply cannot withstand the load and collapse. The ice crust breaks tree branches. The drainage system often suffers from ice and snow that falls from the roof.
How can you avoid this problem? Can the downpipes be protected from snow melting? I want to share with you 7 elementary but effective ways.
- 1. The first is the competent design of the drainage system. It is necessary to ensure that snow and ice falling from the roof do not cling to the gutters. They should be fixed so that the outer edge of the pipes is below the edge of the roof. Then the avalanches will not touch the gutter and will leave the gutter system intact.
- 2. The second way is to fix the gutter at an angle. Then precipitation and water will not stagnate in it. The optimum slope is about 2 millimeters per meter of pipe.
- 3. The drainage system must be fixed very securely. You should not skimp on brackets. It will be better with a margin than with a deficiency. It is advisable to fix every 50 centimeters of the pipe.
- 4. The next simple and reliable way is to use removable gutters. Naturally, you will not be able to collect melt water into the barrels in the spring. But you will be sure that the drainage system will not suffer after winter.
- 5. Today in stores you can find all kinds of systems that heat the drainpipes. Suppose a heating cable is supplied to the troughs for these purposes. I cannot vouch for the effectiveness of this method. I would like to note that it is not the safest, as it can lead to fire and fire.
- 6. You can also make simple devices on the roof that will trap snow. Then the snow will not harm either the drainage system or people passing by. There are special snow guards in stores. You can make them with your own hands using metal corners and pipes. In addition, tow bars will be beneficial, thanks to which the snow from the roof will fall more slowly. Large pieces of such stoppers will be cut into smaller pieces.
- 7. And the last way is from me personally. I cut strips out of polycarbonate - closer to winter I slip them under the roof, blocking the gutter from above, and remove them in the spring. I have been using this method for 7 years, "normal flight".
