How to make a stainless steel water tank for a bath: drawings + video instructions

To make a water tank, you will need stainless steel sheets with a thickness of 1.3 - 1.8 millimeters. The exact figures are calculated based on the volume of the container. A drawing that can be guided during assembly is presented below.

The change in dimensions occurs when taking into account the proportions - depending on the required volume of the tank. The calculation is done according to the classic formula: the length, width and height of the object are multiplied by each other. Stainless steel pipes (up to 102 cm in diameter) are available at hardware stores. They are purchased for the manufacture of a container of a suitable volume.

The formula for calculating the volume of a cylinder is presented below.

Let us consider the sequence of steps in the manufacture of a water tank using an example of using a pipe segment in the form of a blank.

Stage 1. Calculate the height of the water tank using the formula. Here's an example: you want to make a 30-liter tank. For these purposes, there is a pipe with a diameter of 1020 millimeters. After transformation, the formula looks like this:

H = 30: (3.14x0.512) = 37 centimeters. 37 is the length of the pipe section that is needed for the tank.

Stage 2. Cut the pipe with a grinder. For working with stainless steel, discs with a thickness of 1 millimeter and with a diameter of 11.5 centimeters are suitable. Finish the cutting area. A hand-held drill or file is suitable for this purpose. Improvised tools give the same result as a drill, but require more effort and time.

Stage 3. Make the bottom and lid of the water tank. The work takes place in four steps:

1. Draw a circle on the sheet of stainless steel corresponding to the holes that it will close in the future. For simplicity, place the pipe on a metal sheet and trace around it.

2. Cut two blanks according to the markings you made. Use a grinder or drill to cut and grind.

3. Make holes in the bottom and lid equal to the diameter of the smoke exhaust pipe (if you stopped at the on-pipe installation of the tank).

4. Prepare holes for attaching the nozzles to the valves (if they are mounted in the bottom, which is true for outriggers).

Connect the bottom and lid to the tank body. The connection is made in different ways:

  • soldering and lead-free or high temperature solders;
  • welding - automatic or manual (when processing stainless steel, work is possible only in a shielding gas environment).

The most practical is the second method, more precisely, manual arc welding. Welding is done using a non-consumable electrode. Argon acts as a protective gas. When processing, monitor the quality of the seams - they should turn out to be uniform. At the end of the work, cleaning is carried out.

Stage 4. Prepare the holes. The way the holes are made depends on the type of construction. Let's imagine that our design has two nozzles with taps. Cold water flows through the upper pipe. At the bottom, the heated water reaches the person.

The diameter of the nozzle is equal to the diameter of the water pipe that is used with them. Typically the pipes are one inch in diameter. Drilling in stainless steel is done with an electric drill at low speed - up to one hundred revolutions in 60 seconds.

Stage 5. Install the branch pipes with taps. In order to simplify the procedure, weld the pipes to the pre-prepared holes. This move will eliminate the need to equip the thread.

After installing the water tank according to the selected scheme, connect water pipes of the appropriate diameter to the branch pipes. Connect the threaded nipple with the threaded adapter.
