How to use foil in the bath
When choosing a suitable method of thermal insulation, the materials of the bath are of paramount importance. Insulated buildings made of logs, the walls of which have been caulked, do not need a foil layer. Large wooden baths with insufficient heating are protected with thin foil. To speed up the heating of the steam room, the surface behind the stove is also sheathed with foil.
Any foil is suitable for aerated concrete baths - standard or laminated (consists of an aluminum layer and paper). Insulation of brick baths and frame buildings is also a mandatory step. For cladding, foil materials with the addition of cotton wool or polystyrene are used. When covering the ceiling, the foil is selected based on the size of the floors and the presence of thermal insulation in the attic.
The procedure for using the steam room also plays a role. With regular use of the bath, there is no need to use foil for insulation (if they enter the steam room for a short time). If bath procedures take 1-2 hours or more, the use of foil is 100% justified.
Foil thermal insulation solves two problems at once: it saves fuel and keeps the accumulated heat for a long time.Standard cladding
All surfaces are suitable for wall sheathing. The work is carried out in the following sequence:
- Check the surface for protrusions or irregularities and sand with sandpaper (if necessary);
- Measure the height of the wall and cut a roll of foil according to it;
- Fix the canvas with a stapler against the wall from above, gently straighten and secure from below;
- Attach the second strip of material overlapping 5-8 centimeters on the 1st;
- Fasten the joints between the strips with aluminum tape;
- Around windows and doorways, attach the foil tightly to the ends and fix it with a stapler over the entire surface.
If the entire steam room is covered with foil, then first of all the material is fixed to the ceiling. A 10 cm overhang is left at the edges. In the process of wall cladding, the foil is applied overlapping to avoid the formation of gaps.
On top of the vapor barrier layer, wooden slats are attached, and then finishing boards. An air gap is needed between the foil layer and the clapboard, otherwise there will be no effect from thermal insulation.
Sheathing over a layer of insulation
Before fixing the foil, slats with a thickness of 2 * 4 centimeters are laid on the walls in increments of half a meter. The arrangement of the rails can be vertical or horizontal. When carrying out work, the procedure is as follows:
- Insert insulation (roll or slab) between the strips and close everything with aluminum foil;
- Treat the joints with tape and straighten the vapor barrier so that no folds remain on the material;
- Put the rack frame on top for fixing the lining boards. The second layer of slats is placed perpendicular to the first (under the foil);
- Proceed with finishing - attach lining boards to the slats.
It is unnecessary to cover the corner that adjoins the stove with foil. The exception is the cases of wall cladding with decorative materials. Under such circumstances, the thermal insulation must be cut to the masonry area and reinforced with planks.
Additional planks are required for a snug fit to the wall. When using laminated foil, installation methods remain unchanged.
