Hosta, the queen of the shady garden, is famous for the beauty of its decorative leaves, which have various colors. The flower adorns the borders and shores of artificial reservoirs, it is good in single and group plantings on lawns. But these plants annoy slugs and deprive us of the most valuable for us - their decorative qualities.
Slugs eat up the leaves, forming holes on them. If you do not control these pests, they can cause irreparable harm to your garden and winter well in the soil. And in early spring, go for prey again, scraping holes of various sizes on the beautiful leaves of the hosta.
Slugs prefer shade and moisture - the places where the host "lives". For "prey" pests go in the evening or at night, and during the day they hide under the luxurious foliage of a flower. The fight against slugs was suggested by nature itself: these pests do not tolerate hot peppers.
There are several folk remedies for dealing with slugs using pepper.
✧ 1. Cheap, very effective "miracle cure"
prepared from a pack of ground red pepper, diluted in 0.5 liters of water.- Stir the mixture, leave for 4 hours and add a little liquid soap for better adhesion.
- Dilute the infused mixture in 10 liters of water, mix and spray the plant in the evening.
The product can also be used for vegetable crops.
✧ 2. When the heat goes down sprinkle the hosta leaves with clean water, and sprinkle the stems, leaves and soil around the bush with ground pepper. The slugs burn their bodies and crawl away. Mustard powder can be used instead of pepper.
✧ 3. An infusion of hot pepper pods is an almost universal remedy for slugs.. Prepare it like this:
- Finely chop 100 g of pods of hot or hot pepper and place in a heat-resistant dish.
- Pour 1 liter of boiling water, close tightly and let it brew for several hours (the longer, the better).
- Strain and mix with water in a 1:25 ratio. Spray plants with this solution.
After this "thermonuclear" treatment, the slugs will disappear. Store the rest of the undiluted product in the refrigerator for processing from other pests. It is necessary to work with the solution in rubber gloves to avoid burns to the skin of the hands.
✧ 4. Slugs can't stand oven ash it sticks to them and interferes with movement. If 1 kg of ash is mixed with two tablespoons of ground red pepper or baking soda, the product will turn out to be very caustic and will enhance the effect of pest control.
