Why radish grows poorly: 5 categorical "Not allowed" in growing radishes. Don't be left without a crop!

Radish is one of the first vegetable crops that all real gardeners planted on their plots. My radishes grown in my garden are always associated with spring, the first juicy greens, ease of care and a delicious vitamin salad.

But often, it would seem such an unpretentious vegetable, becomes the first failure of the entire summer season. This happens - with a beautiful large tops, the white-red root crop itself does not grow at all. Why does this happen and how to avoid it (I share my own experience).

If you accept all the "conditions" of this spring vegetable, then as a result you will surely collect a quick and abundant harvest of juicy radishes.

1. An unsuitable place for planting radishes was chosen. From my own experience, I know that radish grows best in a garden bed that is affectionately lit by the sun all the first half of the day, and after lunch a light shadow forms on it. In addition, a garden bed too exposed to the sun dries up quickly, so the delicate roots of the plant do not have enough water for optimal fruit setting.

2. The soil in the bed is poorly prepared for planting radishes. A spring vegetable thrives best in loose soil with a low level of acidity (ideally, the soil should be neutral). Unless the soil has been fed with compost or mineral fertilizers, your radishes are also unlikely to end up on the dining table, or too small or empty.

Note for novice summer residents: When choosing a dressing for radish, you should give preference to nitroammofosk and humus, but it is better to refuse potassium dressings. Radish doesn't like them. In addition, if you overdo it with nitrogen fertilizers, then all the power of the plant will immediately go to the tops.

3. Incorrect landing dates. In order to calmly expect a radish harvest, it is best to sow it before winter. The soil generously saturated with moisture will help the vegetable to germinate in April, and in May you can enjoy delicious radishes.

In spring, planting a plant should be done when a long daylight hours already dominate - more than 10 hours, and the air temperature is at least 10 degrees Celsius.

4. Insufficient attention is paid to watering and loosening. The prepared rows in the garden should be watered before planting, immediately after sowing, and then, as needed, approximately every 2-3 days. On a garden bed with radishes, a crust of earth should not be allowed, which blocks the access of oxygen to the roots. The soil should be loosened after heavy rains or watering.

By the way, too intense moistening of the earth will lead to the fact that you will collect tasty but burst radishes. But the lack of watering gives bitterness to root crops.

5. Thinning of the vegetable was not carried out. You cannot thicken the planting - this way the plant will lack light, moisture and nutrition. To get a juicy and large radish, the garden must be thinned out.
