At my neighbor's dacha, the beds with cucumbers always delight with a healthy look and a bountiful harvest. In the summer, she regularly treats me and other neighbors with her strong, neat cucumbers, and in return asks me to collect and give her onion peels.

I was interested in this request. After I figured out how much onion peel is good for the garden and vegetable garden, I also began to collect it in the fall, so that by the beginning of the garden season, enough husk accumulated quantity.

As part of such a simple thing as onion peel, there are a lot of vitamins and other useful components that enhance the vegetation of cucumbers and help fight pathogenic bacteria that infect cucumber whips.

Carotene, phytoncides, B and PP vitamins, phosphorus, potassium and biologically active substances strengthen the immunity of cucumbers (and not only), disinfect harmful microorganisms in the soil activate plant growth and also increase the number of ovaries. Onion peels are considered a versatile fertilizer. It can be applied directly to the ground or made from it as decoctions for root and foliar dressing, as well as infused in cool water.

For myself, I have not yet found any drawbacks in using onion peels for feeding cucumbers. Thanks to my neighbor, I suggested a cheap and effective way to increase their yield and protect them from pests.

How to use the husk in its natural form:

I add this beneficial organic additive directly to the soil during spring preparation of cucumber beds.

If it is necessary to exterminate insects in the greenhouse, then you can either scatter it around the perimeter or put ¼ part of the husk in a bucket and fill it with cold water. Various midges and aphids will be scared of the smell and leave the greenhouse. Then you can gently water the plants with this solution.

How you can make a healthy decoction:

  • Throw a large handful of husks into a suitable container, pour 5 liters of cold water.
  • Put on fire and boil for 6-7 minutes.
  • Next, the broth must be cooled and filtered through a sieve.

Before the feeding procedure, the broth is diluted in another 2 liters of fresh water. It is advisable to add the broth to the soil soon after watering the cucumbers. You can do this feeding once every 5-7 days.

Recently, I have begun to water a little even the seedlings of cucumbers. So they are saturated with useful nutrients and receive protection from diseases and pests from the first weeks of life.

Choose a cloudy day to spray your plants. A bed of cucumbers should be watered with plain water, then put a solution into a spray bottle and process all the cucumber lashes with it.
