Waking up after winter rest is a very important period for rose bushes. In spring, flowers need strong nutritional support. I spend the first spring feeding of roses in late April - early May. I want to share my useful secrets and types of feeding that have never let me down.

Any top dressing should be started by examining the bush. Fertilizers should only be applied to healthy adult plants. Young bushes and roses, which outwardly did not tolerate the cold, need careful handling, otherwise top dressing can seriously harm them.

The bushes that were planted last year, I do not feed at all: when planting new bushes, I always fill the planting pit with compost, peat and rotted manure.

Important! Water the bushes abundantly before feeding. It is impossible to fertilize on dry ground - young plant roots may burn out.
  • In early spring, the rose most of all feels the deficiency of nitrogen-phosphorus supplements. They help the plant wake up and maximize its potential. It is phosphorus that is responsible for the high-quality and abundant flowering of roses.

  • But if you exceed the nitrogen norm in the top dressing, this can lead to violent growth of leaves and the absence of buds.

Therefore, it is always better to purchase high-quality ready-made complex of mineral componentswhere the proportions are optimally observed.

It is good when the selected complex contains magnesium (setting and development of buds), potassium (without it, the plant absorbs phosphorus worse), iron (protects the plant from chlorosis) and other trace elements.

After feeding, be sure to mulch the bush. This will help the spring soil retain its warmth and moisture levels as much as possible.

15-20 days after the first feeding, I put a little organic matter under the bushes. Compost is especially useful for roses in spring. Organic fertilizing promotes the activation of biological processes in the soil, improves the composition and structure of the soil, and also enriches the earth with useful humus for roses.

It should be noted that the effect of organic matter on the soil, and, accordingly, on rose bushes is slightly slower compared to mineral dressings.

The compost is best scattered around the bush and covered with a layer of mulch. It is desirable that the compost has not been in contact with the stem of the rose.

There is no optimal recipe for all types of roses. The ratio of substances in the top dressing, as well as the timing of application, depend on varieties of roses, soil and climate in your area.

If you plan to grow roses and apply your own fertilization methods, then carefully observe for your dressings and their effect on plants to understand which ones best affect your roses. But nevertheless, it is better to entrust this business to professionals and usehigh-quality and proven complex fertilizers from the manufacturer. Moreover, you can see the effect yourself, in the photo.
