I think this is a rather hot topic, and not everyone dares to throw a dirty down jacket into the washing machine. From my own experience, I did it last winter. Well, what do I think? After all, there is a mode in the washing machine for washing down jackets, so you can wash it, and nothing will happen to it. I washed it.
All the fluff escaped into several lumps. And as I didn’t rub this down jacket, the fluff didn’t get up completely. Either the shoulders are empty, or the sleeves are too thick. I was tormented, I decided to take it to the dacha and buy a new one.
Before this winter, I look at the child's down jacket, and it's dirty. Mindful of the failure that befell me with washing my down jacket, I gave it to the dry cleaner. Not a lot, not a little, 1200 hazel grouses, take out, yes, put. And this amount is not small for me. Well, there is nothing to do.
Dry cleaned well. Down jacket, as good as new. And the fluff remained in its place, did not run away and did not roll.
But passing 2 months in down jackets, both for me and for my son, they again became greasy, dirty. It is somehow ugly and inconvenient to appear in them in crowded places. I tell my wife, look what you can do. Is it possible to wash down jackets in the washing machine or not, how then can the down be brought back to its original state?
And here is her search for what led:
1. Balls that are specially designed for washing down jackets (placed together with the down jacket inside the drum) do not work. Therefore, after washing, the down jacket must be allowed to dry. Then spread it on a flat surface, and blow in different directions with a hair dryer.
2. You can use a vacuum cleaner, just remember to remove the brush from it. You also lay out the down jacket on a flat surface, and pass the vacuum cleaner pipe along it in different directions. And when you reach the lump, then with the help of the suction force of the vacuum cleaner, stretch it in different directions, filling the empty niches.
3. Using a rolling pin, stick. I use a bamboo stick, take it from my grandmother, she has been fixing the curtains in her room for 50 years.
Here the son gets into business, he pounds on the down jacket with this bamboo stick for about 15 minutes. In this case, we put it on the disassembled sofa. The surface should be smooth and soft.
Then he takes his wife's massage brush, and brings the down jacket to mind, tapping it all over the surface again. But with a massage brush, this procedure is already carried out on the table, since the surface must be even and hard.
Somewhere and someone called these methods abnormal! A supposedly good down jacket fluffs itself up after washing. The author of these words is lucky, but I have no money for such a good down jacket. Therefore, we invent all sorts of tricks!
But, even if the methods are abnormal, as some believe, they work and allow you to save on dry cleaning.
