How to install an attic staircase alone? (Step by step photo)

Good afternoon, dear guests and subscribers of the "Build for Myself" channel!

Of course, you could get a little confused and make a staircase to the attic with your own hands, but the family is looking forward to moving to the house this year, so there are not enough hands - I did not waste time, I bought a staircase ready-made, paying 9200 rub. (Insulation thickness - 60 mm., Seat: 70 * 120, height from floor to ceiling - 2800 mm.)

Installing for the first time, no experience, without assistants, the installation took half a day.

I carefully studied the installation manual, in which it is written in Russian about installing the stairs from above, i.e. from the attic. But, in the house there is an attic with a height of 1.2 meters, - an attic floor, there is absolutely no possibility to mount from above, I "consider" the roof rafter legs with my head :-)))

... so I did everything from below - from a stepladder, relying only on my own hands.

Since the assembly weighs 45 kg, I could not hold it alone and fix it at the same time. I had to go against the instructions and, as they say, "sculpt a hunchback." Dismantled the ladder into its components: a separate ladder, a separate lid, a separate box and a lifting mechanism.

After that, the box (not heavy) was taken from the ladder to the attic. Further, in order to install it level with the ceiling, two planks were sewn from the bottom of the opening, which repeat the plane of the ceiling. Then, a box is placed on these strips, thereby providing a level on the horizon.

Since the staircase has been disassembled, during the installation process, the box takes any diamond-shaped shape, and, at this stage, the main thing is to install it in a rectangle with the same diagonals.

By installing spacers between the walls of the box and the beams of the attic floor, a perfect rectangle was obtained. Next, we attach the structure to the beams.

According to the instructions - 8 self-tapping screws are required, but I drove in 10 (well, how can I do without a safety net :-)))). Without fail, 2 self-tapping screws must pass through the lifting mechanism in order to distribute the load between the box and the ceiling beams when the stairs are folded back.

The box is fixed and the stuffed strips can be removed. It remains to reassemble the entire staircase into the original structure. We attach the second element - the cover. My favorite transforming staircase helped me with this. Further, everything is already on the knurled one - only in the reverse order.

After the ladder was fixed to the hinged cover, the most difficult thing remained - to tighten the spring of the lifting mechanism.

Since the instructions do not provide for the parsing of the ladder in parts, the spring is always in a tense state and it was difficult for me to stretch it, it took about an hour.

After 5 attempts, it was not possible to do this from below, it was necessary to stretch the spring by 20 cm. and there is not enough support from the ladder. I had to climb into the attic and pull on top ...

This was the last stage!

The staircase looks neat and opens smoothly. It remains to sheathe it to fit the ceiling of the room.

So, don't believe it if you hear that one person can't do it! It is quite possible for one to do all this, the main thing is to disassemble a complex structure into simpler elements !!!
