The other day I bought an ecotester for myself, which has the ability to diagnose food for the content of nitrates and water for the content of salts (for hardness).
After all, hardness is a very important quality indicator, since hard water has a high concentration bicarbonates, sulfates and chlorides, i.e. dissolved salts of magnesium and calcium, which negatively affect organism.
Water hardness is measured in degrees of hardness, which is denoted as ° F. One degree of hardness is 1 mEq / l.
Water testers measure water hardness in PPM units (parts per million (mg / l)). Below is a table of correspondence between the various units of stiffness.
According to the sanitary rules and norms of SanPiN 2.1.4.1074-0 in Russia, it is accepted that the hardness for drinking water should take values no higher than 7 mg-eq / l. or be in the range of 0-350 PPM.
So, on our site there is a well, 18 m deep and a well for irrigation, 7 m deep. As drinking water, we we buy bottled water, and the city water supply system has recently been connected to the house and this water is used for washing dishes and washing.
In this article I will talk about the results of testing water hardness from all 4 water sources.
1. Well 18 m.
Our well is deep and, judging by its condition, it is about 50 years old. The water mirror is at 7 m. Despite the fact that 2 filters are installed after the pump, the PPM indicator goes off scale and is equal to 1715, which is 5 times higher than the norm (1715> 315). This water must not be used for food.
2. Well 7 m.
Our well is shallow and was made 10 years ago only for watering the garden. The water in it, according to the measurement, is even worse and the PPM is 2264. And earlier, the previous owners of the house cooked food on water from this source.
In fact, after a week of using such water, scale forms both on the kettle and on the pots.
3. Water pipes
I confess that I did not expect poor water quality from the local water utility, but when I measured the PPM, it turned out to be 663, which is almost twice the norm, which is also very bad.
4. Bottled water
Finally, I poured bottled water into a glass and tested the hardness. Surprisingly, only 85 units. This value fits into the range of values from 0 to 350.
As a result, purchased water from us is several times better than tap and / or well water.

We live in the Rostov region. I will say that not all purchased water is 19 liters. our bottles are of good quality. Since I acquired this "toy" (tester), I often take measurements and even different batches of water from the same manufacturer have different indicators: from 66 to 652. Once upon a time it is not necessary.
