Good afternoon, dear guests!

In early August, he witnessed a quarrel between a friend acting as a customer and builders who laid paving slabs for him.

In order not to overload the article, I convey the main meaning of the dialogue:

- The film cannot be laid, bring geotextiles - asked the master.

- It's expensive, and I have a lot of things left in the barn. I'm sure nothing bad will happen - answered Zurab and handed over to the shabays all the roll materials left after the construction of the house. These were: roofing material, plastic wrap, pieces of roofing membrane and vapor barrier.

- Well, master is a master! If you want to save money, I will do as you say, but do not say later that you did not warn me - answered the master.

Zurab had to buy another 100 meters of plastic film, as there was not enough leftovers. 250 square meters of paving slabs were laid in the courtyard within a week.

The work was carried out in accordance with the laying technology: they made a pillow of small thickness from screening and sand so as not to damage the assorted roll materials, they were rolled out, a layer of sand 5-10 cm thick on top, leveled, this base was compacted without fail using a vibrating plate and then laid tile.

Everything is according to the instructions, but instead of geotextiles, roll rubbish was laid on the ground ...

As you know, all of the materials listed above are water resistant, with the exception of the roofing membrane. But it also does not provide the proper carrying capacity, like geotextiles.

Having paid a lot of money, namely 86,000 rubles. to work - Zurab was not happy for long, more precisely, until the first good shower.

Despite the fact that drainage trays were installed and the tiles were tilted away from the house, things like this are happening in the basement now:

There is a mistake in technology, and even two:

1. First: the materials used are not drainage materials. Accordingly, all the water falling on them does not go into the ground, but looks for weak points and the shortest paths to the exit - and these are only edges and overlaps of materials.

Therefore, stagnation of water on the surface of the tile will be until it disperses along the film to the sides through the sand.

2. Secondly: if the slope of the site is made when laying the tiles, then you need to make the slope and roll materials away from the house.

Here, no one followed this and the film was laid at random. And most likely, it was laid with a counter-slope, in contrast to the topcoat. Therefore, we get a flooded basement with rainwater.

The example clearly shows how not to do it. It is necessary to use each material for its intended purpose. A penny was saved, and the damage was tens of thousands, and you still need to think about how to eliminate the consequences. Geotextiles, on the other hand, allow you to freely drain water into the ground over the entire installation area.
Doubtful savings!

Thank you for your attention and good luck with the construction!
