Good afternoon, dear guests and subscribers of the "Build for myself" channel!
As you know, I blog about building a house and, if possible, do everything myself and the heating system is no exception. I can’t say that I’m a pro, but I know a thing or two, and in order to make a heating system once and not redo it, I consulted with experienced specialists before installation.
Winter is approaching and this is the first frost that we will meet in the new house.
Gas has already been supplied and the gas workers have left two taps in the house: one for the stove, the other for the boiler. The other day, I connected the boiler to the gas using a corrugation, filled the entire heating system with a coolant and started checking. There are no leaks, all joints are sealed, the warm floor works and this is very pleasing. But it turned out that several radiators were barely warm, but what was the matter - I could not figure it out on my own. Therefore, he invited the foreman, who found a problem spot in the system, and also pointed out the error in connecting to the gas main.
Looking at the connection of the boiler, the master rejected its connection to the gas pipeline through a flexible metal corrugation and said that it was unsafe to do this:
The professional explained that the metal parts of the boiler must be insulated from the metal gas pipe without fail. To do this, a special yellow insert (dielectric coupling) is installed, breaking the electrical circuit.
The coupling has two threads, which are independent and separated by a plastic insert.
The purpose of the dielectric coupling
The dielectric clutch protects the gas pipeline from leakage currents that can form when electrical potential on the body of the gas appliance, whether it be boiler equipment, gas boiler or plates.
In addition, this insulating connection protects the gas appliance itself and its electronics in cases where an electric current acts on the gas pipeline, for example, lightning or a fallen power line wire.
I had to go to the nearest hardware store and purchase such a coupling.
Upon learning of this requirement, I called my parents to find out how things are with them. For parents, the boiler is connected through a rubber hose, which is also a dielectric:
I confess that I did not know about the existence of such couplings before and if this is a well-known product, do not judge strictly, for me this is a novelty!
I really hope that the article will be read by people who have never heard of the isolation of the gas boiler from the gas main.
I would be grateful if the article was useful to you!
Good luck with the construction and repair :-))) Thank you!
