When I already had a working project in my hands, my relatives, friends and acquaintances just They attacked about the metal on the roof: "What are you going to make noise?" or "Children will not be able to sleep from the rain" and stuff like that spirit.
I have a gable roof attic with a slope of 33 degrees and an area of 126 sq.m. (each slope ~ 63 sq.m.). I did it completely all by myself, with the exception of work on lifting the metal tile up - here I asked a friend, a hard worker for help :-)
My rooftop pie is as follows:
1. Metal tiles.
2. Lathing from an inch board 25 * 100 mm.
3. Counter-lathing 40 * 40 mm.
4. DELTA VENT roof membrane.
5. Insulation, mineral plates ROCKWOOL Scandic 100x2 = 200 mm.
6. Vapor barrier film.
7. Imitation of a bar.
Previously, I knew what I was going for and understood that metal is metal, in rain and hail it will make noise anyway. To remove the hum effect as much as possible, two conditions must be provided for a metal roofing tile:
1. Correct fastening of the sheet.
2. Providing soundproofing.
Fastening the sheet
The drum effect of the roof arises from the use of "deshman left" self-tapping screws (which are a dime a dozen on the market), the rubber gasket of which dries out quickly and a backlash forms between the crate and the metal sheet. Secondly, this effect is enhanced by a violation of the installation technology, namely, the lack of sheet attachment points. For each type of metal tile (wave pattern), fastening cards have been developed, in accordance with which it is necessary to carry out fastening. Example:

The attic floor in any case implies insulation, here the insulation layer takes on the task of the sound-absorbing effect. The region in which we live is the southern part of the Rostov region. The insulation of my roof is 200 mm. and this is enough not to lose heat. The heating system more than compensates for the heat loss, so the boiler works "on the wick" :-))) (40-45 degrees).
What's the bottom line?
As a result - the rain is heard, but not all. If it is small and medium, there is no noise at all, the windowsills are thundering more, which I will still finish someday :-)
With a heavy downpour - the metal really makes noise - this is a fact, despite the fact that the entire roofing cake was made conscientiously, he did it himself. But, the noise is insignificant and does not irritate us as residents of the house. I will say that it is not critical - rain does not interfere with our sleep and even calms us down. The city has not yet survived, as the house was moved only a few months ago.
In regions with a very rainy climate, it may be uncomfortable to constantly hear a light tapping, but here, if it rains a couple of times a month, then it is already good.
On the other hand, noise tolerance is all individual and subjective, some people may be tormented by insomnia, but we will not. I can only say that I am satisfied with the roof!
