Good afternoon, dear guests!

We live in the suburbs of g. Rostov-on-Don, in a village where not all home owners have the opportunity to crash into a gas highway, and many of them heat their homes with solid fuel boilers, old brick ovens or potbelly stoves.

In the fall of 2019, one of the owners of such a house on our street purchased a pellet mill for home pellet production. A pellet mill is a machine that produces pellets.

Previously, a neighbor bought finished products annually, but now for the first time in the fall he made more than 3 tons pellet itself, which allowed me to calculate the profit of production for our heating season: October - March.

So, the price of the finished product (granules) with delivery in the Rostov region varies from 6700 to 9000 rubles. per ton (depending on the type of wood - I will take the average value into account - 8 tr.), so a neighbor spent 3 * 8,000 rubles annually to heat his house. = RUB 24,000

Further, the finished product, packed in bags by the manufacturer, is stored in a dry indoor area, and that's all.

Now about home production:

1. Granulator purchased for 74 000 rub. (Productivity is 90 kg / hour with a power of 4 kW / hour).

2. Next, you need to purchase raw materials. The raw material for the production of fuel pellets is wood waste from sawmills. These are sawdust, shavings, small chips, etc. For the production of 3 tons of pellets, 3.3 - 3.5 tons of sawdust is needed, because waste remains after sifting. 3.5 tons of sawdust - you can take it for free, but you need to bring it. Delivery will be about 2500 rub.

3. Thus, in order to process sawdust with the declared productivity, it takes 39 hours (3500 kg / 90 = 39 hours). Now, with a power of 4 kW / h and a minimum cost of electricity of 3.5 rubles / kW, we will pay 39 * 4 * 3.5 = 546 rubles. (with warming up the machine and idling in between - I take 600 rub.).

4. Further, the unit spits out pellets at a moderate speed and we need packaging, which are bags. For 3 tons of pellets - you need about 200 bags, which equals 200 * 10 rubles. = 2000 rub.

5. The maintenance of the granulator is about 300 rub / season (lubrication)

6. The manufacturer of the unit gives a guarantee for 4 years, but according to operating experience (according to the manager), such a machine serves up to 15 years without capital, i.e. the cost of the car per year is: 74,000 rubles. / 15 years = 4 933 RUB / year

So:

  • Sawdust delivery: 2500 rubles.
  • Electricity: 600 rubles.
  • Bags: 2000 rub.
  • Maintenance: 300 rubles.
  • Unit cost per year: RUB 4,933.

Total: 10 333 rubles / year.

Despite these costs, the first thing that catches your eye is the hassle. You need to stand near the unit for 39 hours without leaving it: bring sawdust, hang a bag, tie bag, take away the packed pellets, again bring sawdust, and this, friends, needs to be done almost 40 hours !!!

It is also necessary to store the unit somewhere: rolled it up, rolled it out, something untwisted, - pulled it up, twisted it, etc. All these are costs, not in money, but in your efforts and nerves.

As a result, we get RUB 24,000 against 10 333 rubles.where the benefit is 13 667 rbl. In other words, we divide 13 667 by the heating season, i.e. 6 months and we get 13 667/6 = 2 278 rubles / month for the fact that you need to stand for 40 hours tirelessly: stuff the sawdust and pack it, while you need it do not forget to service this unit and it will take up useful space in the shed when used Total week for the whole year.

Is it worth it?

I would be very glad if the article helps you!
