To deceive the buyer, the seller must hide the actual parameters of the product or replace any of its real characteristics with a more valuable one. And this article will focus on the sale of lumber.
A bar, a board and any wood product have the following parameters, based on which the price is formed:
- size and volume;
- wood grade;
- wood species.
As for the type of wood, whether it is pine, spruce, aspen, linden, oak, beech or ash - no one deceives on this, since wood species can be seen with the naked eye by the color and arrangement of the fibers, here the density and hardness are determined by touch.
The same goes for the variety. The 1st and 2nd grades are practically absent in free sale, and in our market in 95% of cases there is only the 3rd grade, since 1 and 2 are exported from the country.
So, the three most common ways to cheat:
1. Lumber of one size is passed off as lumber of another size, and how does this work?
Unscrupulous employees of construction bases often buy from the supplier a standard type of boards with a thickness of 22 mm., And sell them under the guise of "inch", having a standard thickness of 25 mm.
Board 22x150x6000 has a volume of 0.0198 cubic meters.
Board "inch" 25x150x6000 has a volume of 0.0225 cubic meters.
Thus, the difference is exactly 12%, so if this fact is noticed when buying an "inch" - 10,000 rubles. per cube, keep 12% and hand the seller 8 800 rubles. for cheating!
And this is done not only with an inch: a 150x150 bar can have an actual size of 140x140, and a 200x200 bar - 185x185 (if only it is not striking) and there are many options.
If you do not have a tape measure at hand, then a matchbox will help. With it, you can "by eye" estimate almost any board size:
The size reduction most often occurs at bases where there is a local sawmill - which means that if you notice an incorrect size on one of the views boards, then you can be sure that on this basis almost every type of lumber will be at least 5 mm., but not correspond to the standardized sizes. In other words - having a sawmill - the employees of the base have free hands for shenanigans.
2. Poor quality product
Upon arrival at the base, you see a beautiful product, agree, pay and wait for the delivery of your volume at the scheduled time.
And they bring here such junk, passed off as a high-quality "inch":
Some will accept the goods, some will not. The seller can always pretend to be a fool and say "Sorry, did not follow the loading." But even if you demanded a refund or an exchange of goods, you still lost time!
3. Cheating on volume is the most common method. How does this happen?
You can hear from each seller that there are 22 pieces in a cube. boards 50 * 150 and 16 pcs. boards 50 * 200, but it is not!
In reality, the volume of the board is 50 * 150 * 6000 - 0.045 cubic meters, which means in 1 cubic meter - 22.2 pieces and 50 * 200 * 6000 - 0.06 cubic meters, which means in 1 cubic meter - 16.6 pieces
As an illustrative example - my case: for the rafter system of my house, I ordered 33 boards 50 * 200, of which 20 pcs. - on the rafter legs, the remaining 13 are ridge bars, Mauerlat and puffs.
The seller announced to me that for 33 boards, I will have to pay for 2 cubes (32 pieces) and separately for one board. With a fig eh? I buy exactly two cubes and another "meter twenty", since 16.6 + 16.6 = 33.2 boards!
Therefore, having arrived at the construction market for timber, you need to re-measure the goods and stand above your heart when loading, otherwise - pay less for an underestimated volume!
