What is the best profile for plastic windows?

Good afternoon, dear guests and subscribers of the "Build for myself" channel!

The photo shows all the profiles that can be found in our market.

If you cannot see a sectional profile, you can find out the number of chambers by measuring its thickness. The relationship between the thickness and the number of chambers is as follows:

  • 3-chamber: from 57 to 60 mm;
  • 4-chamber: from 64 to 67 mm;
  • 5-chamber: from 70 to 76 mm;
  • 6-chamber: from 85 to 90 mm.

What are cameras? These are longitudinal air spaces running along the profile, which are closed compartments, separated from each other by a plastic partition, as well as transverse partitions that betray rigidity constructions.

Which profile is better?

As controversial as it sounds, there is no better profile!

PVC profile is a honeycomb structure designed to hold a glass unit. And the quality of the window is affected only in terms of rigidity, due to which the profile must ensure the fixation of a heavy glass unit without distortions and deformations throughout the entire service life of the window.

At the moment, any profile provides the required rigidity and its thickness is selected depending on the thickness of the glass unit, and not vice versa.

A bit of development history

It all started with one plant. The first PVC frames were patented by the German Heinz Pasche back in 1952. and on the basis of his developments, production began to be established all over the world. For the first time, large-scale production was launched in Germany. Already in the 60s, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) windows were installed in almost all European houses.

All innovations entered Russia slowly due to the high cost of imports. Immediately after the "collapse" of the USSR, large-scale production began in our country, so prices fell and demand began to rise.

When one plant was working, there were no problems. Everyone took what was on sale. The scheme is standard: the plant supplies products to dealers in different cities, and they, in turn, sell them to the end consumer. But! Having money, another person will say: "Why don't I start producing PVC windows too?"

Along with the official factories, garage production was opened in the 90s, raw materials were purchased, and now the division between many manufacturers begins. Competition is very high.

Garage on the left, production on the right

And as we understand, marketing is important in competition. Now each of the manufacturers invents his chips, finds any moves, embellishes various parameters and says "Mine is better, buy from me !!!". Just to attract the attention of the consumer! (What happens to this day)

A few years later, GOST (GOST 30674-99, introduced on January 1, 2001) appears on PVC windows. )! And the window manufacturer is now forced to divide products into classes for reduced heat transfer resistance (this is the temperature difference required to transfer 1 W of thermal energy per 1 m2). Therefore, classes that are well known to us appear, like: ECONOMY, STANDARD, PREMIUM and SUPER PREMIUM classes.

Despite the use of the same raw material for different classes, there are still minor differences between them - this can there is a slight difference in sound insulation or heat transfer, due to the thickness of the profile, but within the class - they are simply absent. And all the fairy tales "And my profile is cooler" is a lie and another marketing attempt by the manufacturer to attract attention and get into our pockets.

Why are there only minor differences between classes? Because the profile area is nothing compared to the glazing area. The lion's share of heat loss falls on the glazing, and the profile is chosen such that it ensures reliable fixation of the glass unit in the frame. And with a low-quality double-glazed window - neither 4, nor 5, nor 6-chamber profile will not change the situation at all!

What actually affects quality?

1. The quality of the sealing gum, which forms a sealing contour and separates our room from the street! It should last for years and not dry out under the influence of both high and low temperatures.

2. Fittings. These are various handles, hinges, locks, stops, etc. These mechanisms allow one movement to open all the locks around the frame. The hardware has to withstand a huge amount of openings and support the weight of a heavy frame.

3. Mounting. Any high-quality windows can be immediately ruined by the hands of an illiterate master.

So, with a price-quality approach, it is better to give preference to high-quality components and choose the most inexpensive profile from the selected class - and you will never go wrong.

Thanks for attention!
