One of the most interesting entertainments of my childhood was visiting exhibitions.
The exhibitions were held at the Expocentre on Krasnaya Presnya, and there they showed all sorts of amazing things. Of course, everyone understood that it was impossible to buy everything that was shown there, but it was very interesting to watch.
At each stand there was a huge crowd of people hungry for trophies. Occasionally, from the depths of the stand, a foreign stand-man, mad with such a reaction, came out and the crowd literally snatched advertising leaflets, catalogs, stickers or packages from his hands. Now all this is perceived as useless colored waste paper, but then it was something branded, foreign and extremely necessary.
At the very first exhibition I visited when I was ten years old, I got a whole bunch of stickers with the Canon logo. I didn't know what kind of company Canon was, and of course I was a little upset that the stickers were not SONY, Toshiba or JVC, but that's it. I also pasted them over all the houses and in the country and told everyone that it was a very famous Japanese company that makes photocopiers.
And at another exhibition, my main trophy was REAL JAPANESE PASSATIGES. Someone dropped them, and I found them lying on the ground near the pavilion.
When I walked back from the exhibition with Japanese pliers in my pocket and two huge bags of advertising brochures in both hands, I felt like the happiest person on earth.
