Nowadays many Russian radio stations transmit in RDS signal, which can be displayed on screens. AV receivers, stereos and car stereos, the name of the artist and the name of the song that is played in the air. Immodestly declare that it all started with me.
In 2006, the Relax FM radio station began broadcasting. From the very beginning, the radio station's website displayed information about the current track. On July 3, 2006, I wrote a letter to Yuri Fedorov, Program Director of RelaxFM:
Thank you for showing on the site what's on air now.
It would be very nice if this also appears in the radiotext.
It's not hard to do this at all.
Grateful listeners will die of happiness! :)
The result was unexpected: Yuri invited me to visit Relax FM and showed the whole radio complex.
Relax FM radio occupied three rooms on the floor, all the rest of which was occupied by City FM radio. The first room contained all the broadcasting equipment operating in automatic mode. The playlist was made several days in advance. The second room is exactly the same as the first - a backup broadcast studio in case the first one fails. The third room is a small studio for recording commercials and jingles.
I also saw the much larger City FM complex. I was amazed at the complete duplication of all equipment. Even the large on-air studios of live broadcasting City FM had two - the main and the backup.
We spoke with the CTO. He said that no one needs the display of information about the track, that the flashing information on the screen will interfere with motorists.
However, three months have passed and Relax FM was the first in Russia to display track information in RDS.
Seeing this, many other radio stations have implemented a similar system.
Most likely, the display of track information in RDS appeared abroad earlier, but in Russia this service began with my simple idea.
