Any part from a branded electric kettle is more expensive than this whole kettle. I wondered if a $ 4 kettle could work and not cause a fire.
In Sviblovo a couple of weeks ago, one of the first superdiscounters in Moscow, Svtofor, opened. I am not ready to test sausages and sausages at 100 rubles per kilogram, but I decided to study a kettle for 304 rubles. :)
The kettle is called VINZOR HD-8810. Rated power 1500 W. Volume 1.8 liters. Steel body.
Hidden heater. The water tank is entirely made of metal, there is no window for controlling the amount of water, and for a cheap kettle this is good (it won't leak). The case is not magnetically attached, so it is definitely not ordinary steel and maybe even stainless steel.
The design of the cover is correct and reliable - a latch in the front.
First of all, I poured exactly half a liter of water into the kettle and boiled it, measuring the consumption and the elapsed time.
Surprisingly, at a voltage of 224V, the kettle consumes about 1440 W, which is close to the promised 1,500 W (usually, the real power of cheap kettles is less than the indicated one). As soon as the water boiled, the kettle turned off automatically. 0.5 liters of water boiled in 2 minutes 10 seconds. For comparison, my 3-kilowatt Braun boils half a liter in 1 minute 18 seconds, a Polaris kettle with a specified wattage of 1850-2200W and consumes about 1850W in 1 minute 51 seconds.
When you turn on the kettle without water, it automatically turns off after exactly 15 seconds.
The plastic used is the worst and cheapest, but non-combustible (I tried to burn the base with a lighter, the plastic melts, but does not ignite).
The plastic, and indeed the entire kettle, has a strong chemical smell. But the plastic does not come into contact with water, so boiled water does not smell. Perhaps the plastic will stop smelling over time.
The wire is short - 55 cm and rather thin. It says 3x0.75 mm². The wire does not heat up when the kettle is in operation.
The electrical part surprised me - I expected to see a terrible trash, but everything turned out to be neat and decently done.
It seems that despite the penny price, this kettle is quite safe: everything is connected neatly, and the plastic is non-flammable, and without water it automatically turns off and when boiled reliably works.
I would not recommend anyone to buy such a kettle as the main one for the house, but as a temporary one, for a summer cottage or garage it will do. If the plastic didn’t smell, it would be a great kettle. And this is for 304 rubles.
P.S. In the same place I bought a 15 Watt Economy LED bulb, equivalent to 135 W, 1350 lm, 4500K, Ra> 80 for 38 rubles 80 kopecks (!). I'll test it soon, but for now you can make predictions about how many watts there really are. :)
