When I was little, a village club was being restored in our village. I remember one moment very much. The paths were framed with a metal corner, welders did it. The guys and I rode our bikes and saw an interesting picture - uncles in strange masks poked a rod into the pieces of iron and there was a crack, sparks and a bright light!

Naturally, our whole company drove up to these fabulous people! But these people turned out to be not fabulous, but ordinary, and they immediately asked us to move away and not look at this bright light. But how so, we stepped back a little and continued to observe, because it was very interesting for us. This time the uncles asked to leave very persistently, emotionally and with the help of magic words, but these are not words like please!

At home, I asked my father why they had kicked us out and not allowed to see such an interesting work. He told me that if I looked at that bright light, then my eyes could be very sick. Then I didn't really believe it, but it turned out to be true, and I found out after a couple of decades, when he himself became the same uncle in a strange mask, making a lot of bright light with the help of rods and glands and sparks!

If you look at welding without a mask, you will get burns to the mucous membrane and retina of the eye. In the slang of welders, this is called catching hares. But the medical name for this process is electrical ophthalmia.

It does not appear immediately, but after a few hours, and if the burns are severe, then the pain and burning sensation will intensify. There are 4 degrees of burns, 1 and 2 are treated at home, but 3 and 4 are very serious, you need to immediately go to the hospital, otherwise the consequences will be serious. It all depends on how long you looked at the bright light from the welding.

If you started welding, then let you always have such medicines as Albucid and Cornellegel at home, how to use them, everything is in the instructions.

You will also have to use dark glasses for the first time, there will be photophobia. Or you may have to lie with your eyes closed until it becomes easier.

We who read this article are adults. After this information, the majority will remember what to do and what not to do. But, in my opinion, these prohibitions are very important to tell your children. After all, if they see such an interesting thing as metal welding on the street, they will definitely come to look closer. And it's good if they are asked to go away from this place and they will obey.

Good luck, take care of your eyes, see you soon!
