If you live on the first floor and there is still a basement under you, then you probably know how unpleasant it is to walk on ice floors in winter. Moreover, neither thick carpets, nor warm socks, nor slippers can save from this problem. The only panacea is the arrangement of warm floors.
But how then did our ancestors live when no one knew about water and electric heated floors? They must have simply wrapped themselves in all available clothes in the winter, heated the stove and were invariably freezing! It turns out that special technologies already existed at that time.
An old village house, which we purchased not so long ago, helped to come to this conclusion. I gradually understood its structure and was pleasantly surprised. In the old days, people, lacking knowledge in the field of engineering, made their home very comfortable (as far as possible).
The village in which we bought the house was not supplied with gas for several years, so we were heated with the help of an old Russian stove. What I noticed: in the basement, even in the coldest weather, the temperature always kept above zero. And this is despite the fact that the floor in the house is earthen. But we walked on it and did not freeze! Miracles or simple physics?
Note that the owner of the neighboring house decided to make warm floors, as a result, his basement became cold and damp! Why did this happen? It turned out that, while trying to warm up, the neighbor walled up important sex holes.
The old buildings have no foundations, they were built right on the stones. The dwelling was sprinkled with dry earth and needles from the outside, making a mound. Thanks to this, the heat remained in the basement and did not go out into the street.
Also, there are special holes in the filling - air vents. With their help, the basement is ventilated in summer (they also serve as entrances for cats). When cold weather comes, the vents must be closed.
In houses where peasants used to live, the floor is a flooring of thick boards, tightly adjacent to one another. There are also floor openings near the stove. At first it never occurred to us that this was some kind of special technology. But we underestimated the ingenuity of our ancestors!
When a fire burns in the stove, air comes not only from the floor, but part of it is drawn from under the floor through the genital openings. A special blower door is located not high above the floor, next to it is a vent through which you can get into the basement.
So what happens? The stove is on - the air rises from the basement, as a result, the underground is ventilated and warms up a little. There is also a hole in the opposite corner of the room. Through it, the already heated air enters the basement. Air is circulated for dryness and warmth.
It is slightly colder under the basement of the oven than in the basement, so seams and other products can be stored there, although rodents can attack them.
Having thoroughly heated the stove, you need to close the holes. The neighbor, trying to do the best, completely closed up the holes. As a result, circulation was disrupted, the basement became damp and cold, and with it the floors also stopped warming up.
Our ancestors didn't even need some super-knowledge to make their home warm and cozy.
