The steam room is the main room of the bath, where people relieve fatigue and relax under the influence of therapeutic hot steam. Therefore, comfortable shelves made of high-quality wood should be installed in it, intended for resting visitors and taking bath procedures. Bath beds can be made independently by choosing high-quality wood and strictly following the rules for their manufacture.

The choice of wood for the manufacture of sun loungers

For the manufacture of shelves, it is necessary to choose wood that, when heated, does not emit harmful resins, resistant to temperature changes and moisture, and also has low rates thermal conductivity.

It is better to give preference to aspen, linden, birch or oak varieties of wood. Accordingly, pine, spruce and other conifers are not suitable for the steam room.

The sunbeds will be installed in a room with the highest possible temperature and humidity level, therefore, before their manufacture, all boards must be treated with special antifungal and antiseptic agents that protect against the appearance of fungi and the reproduction of pathogenic microorganisms.

For the manufacture of sun beds, you must have the following tools:

  • building level;
  • electric jigsaw or grinder;
  • grinder;
  • tape measure and hammer;
  • electric planer;
  • screwdriver and hardware.
The whole structure is secured by means of wooden wedges or pins. If self-tapping screws are used, they must be placed only on the underside of the products or deepened into the sweep. All boards for assembling the shelves should be well planed and sanded.

Sunbeds assembly procedure

First you need to prepare the boards by sanding all corners with a grinder. Instead of hardware, it is better to use oak wedges so that the visitors to the steam room do not burn themselves on the metal elements of the shelves. If you make the structure of the sun loungers collapsible, the boards can be taken out into the street for regular drying. This will extend their lifespan.

Lounger with frame

Stages of work:

  • The first step is to prepare all vertical and horizontal elements of the timber frame.
  • Supports made of bars must be placed vertically, and between them, fasten the crossbars by inserting them into the upper parts of the bars. The step between the planks should be about 50 cm.
  • Their thickness is selected depending on the number of racks. If it is 22 cm, the distance between the vertical supports must be at least 60 cm.
  • The frame must be assembled from 50x70 mm beams. Sheathe it with planks at intervals of 1-2 cm to ensure ventilation and drainage. Also, to drain the water, the shelf must be installed with a slight slope.

Shelf without frame

Installation steps:

  • To the side walls of the steam room with the help of screws, you need to screw 2 bars measuring 45x140 mm. A gap of several centimeters should be made between the wall and the boards. You can use nuts for this.
  • Boards measuring 45x280 cm should be fastened together with 2 beams in width. The step between the planks is 1-2 cm.
  • The resulting shelves must be screwed to the support boards using self-tapping screws so that the connecting the bars turned out to be below, and under it install another 2-3 wooden racks to ensure the strength of the entire constructions.

The standard dimensions of the steam room shelves are 180x90 cm. There should be a distance of at least 1.25 m between the ceiling and the upper shelf, and it should recede from the wall by about 10 cm to create a ventilation duct. If 2-3 tiers of sun loungers are installed in the steam room, they should have a distance of 40 to 60 cm between them so that people can sit on them without bending their backs.

Mobile loungers and removable benches must be installed on rubber pads to ensure their stability on the floor surface. The bottom boards of the shelves should be 10-15 cm from the floor. This will provide good ventilation and cleanability.

If the bath has windows, the loungers should be located at some distance from them so that accidentally cracked glass does not fall on people. This can happen due to the high temperature in the room. Therefore, the windows cannot be installed in the steam room, but only in the rest room or in other rooms of the bath, where the temperature does not rise above + 25... + 30˚C.
