Even in the greenhouse, some garden crops begin to wither, and their leaves turn yellow due to lack of air and high temperatures, which rise above the maximum allowable during the day. In order to protect plants from the heat in the greenhouse, it is necessary to monitor the air temperature and the degree of humidity in the room, maintaining them at the proper level.

Temperature and humidity are optimal

In summer, the temperature and humidity of the air in the greenhouse must correspond to the type of planted garden crops:

The table shows that not all vegetables can be grown in the same room due to differences in their temperature and moisture content.

How to lower the temperature

In the morning, it is imperative to open all doors and windows in the greenhouse. But if the weather is dry and calm outside, this may not be enough, so there are other ways to reduce the temperature in the greenhouse.

Greenhouse construction painting

During the Soviet era, gardeners painted glass greenhouses with a special compound made of chalk, lime and clay. It was applied to all glass indoors so that the plants received as little sunlight as possible. This solution is also suitable for polycarbonate greenhouses. Coloring should only be done before planting seedlings.

Artificial protection of structures

In order to protect the greenhouse from the sun, it can be covered with a special material from the southeast (or from above). It depends on the location of the greenhouse on the site. This material can be white or colored spunbond, as well as protective nets with reflective effect, which have standard dimensions and are easily mounted on the greenhouse using special fastenings.

Plants to darken the greenhouse

Not far from the greenhouse, it is necessary to plant vines or dense bushes, which will not only shade the structure, but also take on some of the sun's rays. If possible, such plants can be planted inside the greenhouse, but they will absorb light even in rainy, cloudy weather. This should be taken into account.

Ventilation and ventilation system installation

During the construction of the greenhouse, it is necessary to provide for at least 2-3 vents located at different ends of the room. If this is not enough, 2-3 fans can be installed in the greenhouse, which will cool the air inside the building during the day.

Installation of containers with water

To mitigate daily temperature fluctuations in the greenhouse, you can install several barrels of water, which will absorb the sun's rays during the day and give all the heat to the plants at night. You can also put plastic or glass water bottles between the beds. Subsequently, the settled water can be used to water the plants.

How to increase humidity levels

Not only can high temperatures adversely affect garden crops, but also the degree of humidity. When it decreases, the plants will begin to dry out, and when it rises, they will rot, being exposed to various fungal diseases.

The degree of humidity is controlled using a hygrometer installed inside the greenhouse. In order to reduce it, it is enough to regularly ventilate the room and mulch the soil. And with a lack of moisture, it is necessary:

  • Water not only the plants regularly, but also the aisles so that the water in the room does not evaporate for a long time. This is best done in the morning.
  • Install water sprayers or steam generators for crops that require the highest possible humidity. Such a system is installed quickly enough, but requires a constant supply of water, and not by the hour, as is the case in many dacha cooperatives or partnerships.
All methods of combating heat and drought in a greenhouse are best foreseen at the stage of its construction, so as not to be left without a long-awaited harvest in the future.
