Bordeaux liquid consists of copper sulfate and calcium hydroxide, has the formula CuSO4 • 3Ca (OH) 2. Refers to fungicidal preparations. By the nature of the action, it is a pesticide that protects plants.

Preparation of the fungicidal composition
A properly prepared composition has the following properties:
- keeps well on plant leaves;
- has a fungicidal effect;
- has a neutral pH.
To improve the adhesion of the solution, silicate glue is added to it.
The mixture has the following properties:
- destroys fungi;
- has a stimulating effect.
The tool is not used to destroy the causative agents of peronosporosis tobacco and powdery mildew.
The drug is effective against vegetable diseases such as:
- cercosporosis;
- coccomycosis;
- anthracosis.
The solution is prepared immediately before starting the processing of crops. Mix CuSO4 and quicklime slurry in a large container. To obtain a large amount of fungicide, you must select the optimal ratio of ingredients. The proportion of the components is 1: 1 or 4: 3.
The chemical reaction takes place in an alkaline environment. A lime suspension is placed in a container and CuSO4 is slowly added. As a result of a chemical reaction, a mixture is obtained that has a dark blue color, the consistency of a 1% liquid resembles a jelly.
If the proportions are not observed, copper hydroxide will prevail in the mixture, which turns into an insoluble precipitate. In this case, particles with a size of 10 microns are formed, which affect the physicochemical properties of the solution.
The disadvantages of the production of a fungicidal preparation include:
- labor intensity of the process;
- the need for special equipment.
To obtain 100 liters of fungicide with a concentration of 1%, it is necessary to prepare 1 liter of CuSO4 and 0.75 kg of lime. Hot liquid is poured into the container, copper sulfate is added and water is added to a volume equal to 90 liters. In a separate container, lime is quenched by adding liquid until a mass with the consistency of sour cream is formed. CuSO4 is poured into the liquid lime ingredients, stirring the resulting composition. Containers made of materials that easily corrode should not be used to prepare the solution.
How to handle plantings
When plants are damaged by a fungus, Bordeaux liquid is used to destroy it. Processing is carried out 2 times a year: in spring and autumn. Stone fruit trees are sprayed with a fungicidal composition once a season before bud break. A solution of 3% concentration is used, which destroys diseases such as:
- curliness;
- plum pocket;
- rubella.
After treatment, the plants have a bluish color for 20 days. During the season, stone fruits can be sprayed 4 times with a fungicide. 10 liters of liquid are consumed per tree, 2 liters of antifungal agent is enough for young seedlings.
Bordeaux liquid is used to treat trees such as:
- Apple tree;
- pear;
- quince.
The fungicide destroys the causative agents of monilial burn, fruit rot, black cancer. At the beginning of spring, trees are sprayed 2 times with a 3% composition, during the growth period, a solution with a concentration of 1% is used.
10 liters of fungicide are consumed per 1 adult plant. From March to November, trees are sprayed no more than 6 times. If the garden is healthy, processing is carried out 1 time in 3 years.
Black and red currant bushes are sprayed with a 3% composition. In this case, it is possible to preserve the harvest of berries and prevent the development of diseases such as:
- leaf spot;
- rust;
- septoria;
- anthracosis.
For 1 bush of currants, 0.5 liters of the composition are consumed. During the growing season, 3 treatments are carried out. Vine plantings are protected with a solution of copper sulfate from pathologies such as:
- anthracosis;
- mildew;
- melanosis;
- rubella;
- cercosporosis.
Spraying is carried out at the beginning of spring using a 3% solution. During the growing season, other preparations should be used that have a milder effect and do not contain CuSO4.
A summer resident can spray the grapes with a fungicide using a 1% composition. The treatment of the plant is carried out 6 times during the growing season, consuming 1.5 liters of fungicide per 10 m² of planting of vines.
