Aphid damage

Today there are more than 3 thousand. aphid species that affects all garden and horticultural crops. Their main food is plant sap, so they grow on stems, foliage or fruits and suck out all the nutrients from them. As a result, the crops' immunity decreases, the plant withers and dies over time.

In addition to the fact that aphids suck out juices, they also leave abrasive droppings on the surface, which becomes an obstacle to normal metabolism and photosynthesis. To get a good harvest, it is necessary to get rid of aphids, and preventive measures must be taken to protect the garden and vegetable garden.

Plant aphids in colonies, and you can determine its presence by changing the color of the leaf or stem. An increase in the number of ants is also a sign of the appearance of this parasite, because they feed on the secretions of aphids.

Control methods

You can fight aphids in different ways: chemical, which involves the use of special compounds sold in stores, and folk. The second method is based on the recipes of alternative medicine, i.e. these are products that include substances of plant and animal origin.

In order to prevent or destroy an existing aphid, it is important to know what it is afraid of. First of all, it is a bitter taste and a pungent smell. Accordingly, these factors must be taken into account when preparing poisons for parasites.

It is not recommended to use aggressive chemical mixtures so as not to slow down the growth of the culture and not to spoil the taste of the fruit.

Effective folk ways

Consider the effective and proven methods of dealing with aphids on garden plants and garden crops:

  • Laundry soap 72% fat is one of the best ways to fight various parasites. The plus is that the product does not harm the plant, but disinfects it and scares off aphids, bugs, caterpillars and worms. The soap must be crushed (on a grater, in a meat grinder or blender) and mixed with water at the rate of 5 tbsp. for 1 liter of water. The resulting liquid must be irrigated with plants on which aphids have settled. Instead of soap, you can use washing powder, only without sweet and fruity aromas, which, on the contrary, attract parasites, and not repel.
  • Tobacco repels aphids, but does not harm the culture at any stage of vegetative development. You need to take 2 glasses of the product (cigarette butts are also suitable, because they contain nicotine and tar), pour 10 liters of water, bring to a boil and leave for 24 hours. Then cool and drain. If the tincture is used during the fruiting period, then the dosage of tobacco should be reduced by 2 times so as not to impart bitterness to the fruit. This is especially true for tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and cabbage.
  • Against aphids, you can use any infusion of "spicy" plants, such as onions, garlic, chili or horseradish. Any of these fruits must be finely chopped and pour 1 liter of boiling water and insist for at least 2-3 hours. Before use, add 2 more tablespoons to the composition. detergent, crushed soap, or washing powder. Process the plants with the resulting solution no later than 3 weeks before harvesting, otherwise you can get sharp and inedible fruits.
Aphids, like any parasite, often plant on weakened crops for the purpose of feeding. Pests spoil trees, bushes and garden plants, so you need to get rid of them. There are many ways to do this, but which one is better to use, the gardener chooses himself.
