The essence of spring treatment of bushes

Spraying of bushes is carried out for several purposes: to destroy pests and prevent possible diseases. Many solutions used in processing contain substances that can harm foliage, and therefore such work is carried out in early spring. It is most convenient to deal with the prevention of diseases and the destruction of pests in March, but this is only in those regions where the air temperature is high enough during this period and there is no longer any snow. Otherwise, the processing efficiency will be negligible. A layer of snow will protect pests from the influence of special solutions. Therefore, it is worth focusing both on the absence of snow and on the condition of the buds of the currant bush. For quality processing, they must be swollen.

Currants, like gooseberries, are highly resistant to diseases, so the list of those is not so large. Most often, plants suffer from:

  • anthracnose;
  • striped mosaic;
  • reversion;
  • rust;
  • septoria;
  • gray rot;
  • spherotek.

All of these conditions require human intervention. If treatment is not carried out in a timely manner, the number of berries may decrease significantly or they will completely die. Processing currants from diseases and pests in spring is the key to a good harvest.

Preparations used in processing

Several decades ago, powerful agents were used to fight plant diseases that together with the elimination of the symptoms of the disease had a negative effect on the state of the plants. Now, products are used that have a softer, sparing effect.

The following solutions are used to treat the plant:

  • 3% copper sulfate;
  • 5% ferrous sulfate;
  • 1% bordeaux liquid;
  • infusion of ash;
  • Topaz.
To prepare a solution from the ash, take 100 g of the substance per 1 liter of water and mix, insist for 3 days, filter, add another 3 liters of water.

Before you start watering, remove excess leaves from the bush that have remained from last year. Then the top layer of the soil is carefully loosened. And only after that, treatment with copper or iron sulfate is carried out, during the period of bud formation, the bush is sprayed Bordeaux liquid, and after the end of flowering and harvesting - the same Bordeaux liquid, but in a weaker concentration.

Pests threatening currants

Currants are threatened by parasites:

  • kidney mite;
  • kidney moth;
  • moth;
  • glass case;
  • currant aphid;
  • currant goldfish;
  • sawflies;
  • currant gall midge.

There are many ways to protect a plant from pests. All of them are divided into folk and specialized. In some cases, a combination is possible. It should be noted right away that alternative methods are recommended for use with the initial signs of damage. If the pests are widely spread throughout the bush, they are likely to be ineffective. Experienced gardeners recommend examining the bushes more often in order to identify pests and pre-treatment in advance.

For the prevention of kidney mite damage, it is recommended to use boiling water, but it must be carried out even before the kidneys open. For the same purposes, it is allowed to use soapy water, infusions of tobacco, celandine, garlic, onion husks, nightshade or dandelion.

When pests are detected, more serious means are used:

  • colloidal sulfur solution;
  • 1% bordeaux liquid;
  • Karbofos in powder or emulsion form;
  • Actellik;
  • Fufanon.

Care should be taken when carrying out this type of work. Previously, dead, dried branches are cut from the bush. The soil must be processed at a distance of 60 cm from the shoots. It is necessary to work in special tight clothing. Avoid getting the solution on exposed skin. It is necessary to make the liquid strictly in accordance with the existing instructions.
