Stationary elements
When creating the parts described below, you should consider the convenience of their placement inside the chicken coop with respect to cleaning and movement. After all, when they are set firmly, they cannot be moved later:
- Perch. Designed to accommodate chickens during sleep or rest. It resembles an outwardly wide staircase set at an angle - so that the upper chickens do not stain the feathers with the lower ones. In width, each chicken should have 30 cm of free space so that everyone can sit comfortably. The section of the bar should be comfortable for the claws, so that the birds can wrap them around the side surface, but thick enough so as not to bend or break under the weight of several birds
- Nests. Used to hatch eggs. Externally, they are several boxes located at an elevation of at least 50 cm. The inside of the box should be divided into 2 sections: the top one for the chicken and the bottom one for the eggs. Along the far wall there is a hole through which the egg from under the chicken falls into the lower compartment, from where it can be reached by hand, but it is impossible to peck it. Enough 1 nest for 4-5 individuals. The minimum dimensions of the chicken section: 30x40x30 cm. In the lower part, it is better to equip a lining of hay so that the eggs do not break. A ladder or board is required to allow a flightless bird to climb inside.
- Litter. Designed to create comfortable living conditions for birds. It is made from a mixture of sawdust, hay, straw and other available products, poured onto the floor. Can play the role of insulation. Once a week, remove the old litter and litter and add a new one.
- Net walking. Created for taking birds outside in favorable weather. Externally, it is a mesh fence resting on several racks. A shelter is encouraged to protect the birds from sudden rain. At the bottom, the mesh should be firmly pressed to the ground and reinforced with materials at hand.
Movable elements
These parts of the coop can be moved around, so their location is the last thing to think about. But their presence is mandatory, as well as stationary structures:
- Feeders. The number and size of this element depends on the number of birds. It is necessary to find a place for the structure so that each animal can eat. Food should be renewed twice a day, preferably in such a way that a little feed remains overnight.
- Drinking bowls. In terms of quantity, the same recommendations as for feeders. Clean water should be at room temperature - check and replace several times a day. Access to the drinking bowl ensures the bird's well-being.
- Stern shell. It is an additional food item. Thanks to the mineral supplement, the body of birds is enriched with calcium. There are no special requirements for a seashell bowl.
- Bathing suit. An open box filled with a mixture of ash and sand, designed to protect against parasites. Chickens will rub ash particles into their feathers and clean them.
- Small pebbles, grass, sand, coals. Distributed in several small feeders, these substances are also part of the feed. For example, poultry charcoal is used to cleanse the stomach.
- Artificial light sources. With a lack of lighting, chickens begin to experience problems - biting, aggression are noted, productivity decreases. A few fluorescent light bulbs with automatic on and off will suffice.
