Processing of the aboveground part of plants
Foliar feeding involves the absorption of nutrients by the plant through the leaves. It is good to use a spray bottle for processing. If the household does not have a spray bottle, the plants can be irrigated with a brush. Another option is a plastic bottle. Use a sharp object such as a needle to make several small holes in the lid. Through them, the fertilizer will be distributed.
Foliar feeding of peonies is carried out in 3 stages. The first time a flower bed must be processed when plant stems appear on it. To prepare a solution, you need to dissolve 50 g of carbamide in 10 liters of water. Gardening works are performed in calm weather and after a decrease in sun activity, i.e. in the evening or early in the morning.
After 14-20 days, the second stage of feeding the bushes is carried out. Peonies should be treated with an aqueous solution of carbamide (prepared according to the same recipe) with the addition of a complex fertilizer to the composition (diluted according to the manufacturer's instructions).
After 2 weeks, the time comes for 3 spring feeding. You will need to buy any complex mineral fertilizer and prepare it according to the manufacturer's instructions. The resulting solution is sprayed with bushes.
If the plants were planted less than 2 years ago, then during the period of foliar processing of the bushes additionally you can fertilize the flower beds with “Heteroauxin” (2 tablets for 10 liters of water) or sodium humate (for 10 liters of water 5 d).
In order for the root system to develop and strengthen in young bushes, it is not recommended to let the plants bloom for the first 2 years. It is recommended to cut the buds that will appear on the peonies.
Caring for peonies over 3 years old
When the root system of the plant gets stronger, which happens after 3 years of cultivation, and the bush becomes large, root feeding is carried out. In a hot summer, the amount of fertilizer applied is reduced, and in a rainy year, increased. To make up for the lack of nutrients, it is enough to feed the flowers 3 times during the spring and summer.
When the snow begins to melt, nitrogen (10 g) and potassium (15 g) are scattered around each bush. Fertilizers will gradually penetrate into the ground with melt water. During the budding period, peonies need nitrogen (10 g), phosphorus (15-20 g) and potassium (15 g). The third feeding is carried out 2 weeks after the last flower withers. The flower beds are fertilized with a mixture of phosphorus (15-20 g) and potassium (10-15 g). Thanks to the last feeding, the plant gains strength to survive the winter and discard new buds the next season. It is recommended to add nutrients to the soil during watering.
Peonies over 3 years old require more fertilization. For this reason, the quality of the soil in flower beds where old overgrown bushes grow can be improved with the help of organic matter. Mullein works well as a spring feeding. To prepare the working composition, it is necessary to dissolve fresh cow dung in 10 liters of water. Additionally, you can add chicken droppings. The solution is covered and insisted for 10 days.
A shallow trench is made at a distance of 25 cm from the bush (in a circle). It is filled with organic fertilizer. Do not allow the composition to get on the stems or leaves, because it can cause burns. It is recommended to feed old bushes with organic matter during the period of bud formation. Before fertilizing, peonies should be watered (if there was no rain).
