Preparation of planting material for seedlings, soil selection, ambient temperature

It is necessary to start planting seeds for growing young tomatoes when the soil reaches a positive temperature. In this case, beneficial microorganisms begin to multiply. The soil is poured into prepared containers (long boxes or containers). Grooves are made 1 cm deep, the distance between them is 5 cm. Seeds are placed at a distance of 3 cm from each other. The planting material is covered with a film or a small piece of glass. The seeds should be kept at a low temperature, so they are stored for a long time without loss of germination.

Young plants need good nutrition and comfortable conditions. Seedling soil is purchased in a special store. The following mixtures are the best soil for sowing seeds:

  • "Bogatyr";
  • "Strong for Tomatoes";
  • "BioGrunt";
  • "Ecoflora";
  • "Gardener";
  • Bioterra.

"BioGrunt Keva" contains peat, manure, humic mixtures, vermiculite, dolomite flour. The composition is used for growing plants in the open field.

The Ogorodnik mix includes the following ingredients:

  • peat;
  • dolomite flour;
  • mineral fertilizers.

"Gardener" is used in order to accelerate the process of emergence. "Krepish" is used for growing tomatoes. It contains balanced peat-based fertilizers. As a nutritional supplement, for open ground use the mixture "BioGrunt Ekoflora", designed to accelerate the growth of young plants. It contains an extract of bottom sediments from fresh water bodies.

The temperature in the room where the containers with plants are located should be + 25… + 30 ° С. Sometimes the container is located next to the central heating battery. If in the room the thermometer shows + 25... + 28 ° С, shoots appear on the 4th day, at + 20... + 25 ° С the first leaves of a young plant can be seen in a week. Low room temperature (+ 10... + 12 ° C) promotes emergence of seedlings 2 weeks after planting the seeds.

Watering and fertilizing

Seedlings need full lighting. In greenhouse conditions, plants are placed next to fluorescent lamps. During the first two days, seedlings are illuminated around the clock, then the duration of additional lighting is reduced to 17 hours.

It is necessary to provide increased soil moisture, since dry air has a negative effect on seedlings. During the day, the film covering the containers is removed to harden the seedlings. After 10 days, the polyethylene cover is removed completely. Water the young seedlings if necessary. If the topsoil is crusty, irrigate the soil. Grown plants require frequent watering. It is carried out at the root. For work, use a pipette or a watering can with a sharp nose.

Irrigation should be done early in the morning or after sunset, but not at noon. If the greenhouse is cool at night, do not water the seedlings in the evening. Young plants should be hardened every day.

Seedlings are fertilized 2 weeks after planting in open ground. The second introduction of the nutrient mixture is carried out after 10 days. The following organic compounds are used to fertilize the soil:

  • humus;
  • manure;
  • infusions of herbs;
  • chemicals.

The gardener picks seedlings - transplants them into plastic cups. The first transplantation of seedlings is carried out at the moment when they have 3 true leaves. An early pick is carried out when the seedlings are planted densely. The transshipment method is used. The plant is placed in a new place without removing the clod of earth on the roots. In this case, they are not damaged, seedlings appear early. When transplanting seedlings, the main root is sometimes pinched, but this procedure has a bad effect on the growth and development of seedlings. Gardeners do not recommend it.
