Features of low-growing tomatoes

Today, undersized tomatoes are in great demand among Russian summer residents. They are highly valued due to their unpretentiousness to growing conditions, resistance to negative environmental influences and high productivity. And since it is problematic to grow a tall variety in Russian latitudes, such options are especially in demand. Low-growing specimens are distinguished by their compact dimensions, a variety of colors and sizes of vegetables. There are 3 categories of tomatoes in total:

  • Determinant.
  • Superdeterminate.
  • Stamp.

Representatives of the first group are not subject to the removal of stepchildren, and the second and third ones are optional.

The most popular undersized varieties include Aquarelle. These tomatoes are distinguished by an early ripening period and good fruiting. In the process of development, the bush forms a powerful shoot and grows up to 45-50 cm in height. The foliage has a rich green hue with a slightly corrugated surface. It is not necessary to pinch the plant.

In large clusters, up to 5-6 red-colored tomatoes are formed. The peduncle has a small yellow spot. In shape, the ripe vegetable resembles a plum and has a thin skin. Weight varies from 70 to 100 g. The pulp is quite dense with a sweetish taste and pronounced aroma.

The variety is universal, and its fruits can be consumed fresh or used for pickling and marinade. The ripening cycle takes about 100 days, but tomatoes take several more weeks to fully ripen. The variety does not require special care, develops normally on any soil and bears fruit abundantly.

Among them is the F1 Krakowiak, which belongs to the category of ultra-early standard plants growing up to 50 cm in height. A distinctive feature of the variety is the small number of leaves and the absence of the need for pinching and garters.

Krakowiak F1 has simple inflorescences and forms about 4-5 fruits. They ripen 78-83 days after germination and weigh about 70 g. In addition, the crop ripens well in indoor conditions. From one bush per season, it is possible to remove 1.5-1.7 kg of the crop.

Another popular variety is called Baby Sweet. It bears fruit abundantly and forms large vegetables. In addition, representatives of the variety are distinguished by their resistance to common diseases, including:

  • Fusarium.
  • Verticillosis.
  • Top rot.

Immunity to late blight due to early maturation. From the moment the seedlings appear until the harvest, 80-83 days pass. The plant grows up to 40-50 cm in height and forms a compact bush.

Planting tomatoes on an open bed is carried out using temporary shelters. It is not necessary to remove stepsons and form a plant. Fruits of the Children's Sweet variety are suitable for canning, slicing, pickling and preparing salads.

Utya is a rare variety of the undersized group. It is famous for its high yield and early ripening. Fruits are even, rounded and bright orange in color. They weigh 60-100 g and have a thin but tough skin. Tomatoes of the Utya variety are usually used for pickling or fresh consumption.
